Does anyone make a supercharger kit or turbo kit for our trucks? I have a 96 f150 4x4 with a 302 and an e4od auto, i'm gonna be doing an intake and exhaust and probably a programmer or chip but I know I'll want more power, I'd love to turbo it or supercharge it but I can't find any kits online for these things
The problem is that that you would need more than just the super. That truck is speed density (OBD-I) and will require a custom computer program to run properly with a supercharger. If it was a little newer (or you convert it to MAF) then it be much easier.
Yup, custom tune is in order for that route. 2-bar MAP sensor, larger injectors, upgraded fuel pumps, wastegate control (for a turbo), etc. Turbocharging is possible with a speed density system (The GMC Syclone & Typhoon are SD), however it's much more limited than a MAF system.
Does anyone know if a centrifugal supercharger like a Vortech or Procharger setup for a fox Mustang can be fitted to a truck without too much modification to the kit itself? Down the road I want to add a supercharger or turbo(s) to my 5.0 and trying to sort out my options. Would like to see around 450hp. I've been trying to find a used Vortech kit for the trucks, but no luck. They are hard to come by and the couple that I have come across need head unit rebuilds and/or most of the kit is destroyed. I would prefer to use new parts anyways.
I can't see why a Mustang setup couldn't be adapted, since a common MAF swap for the trucks is to use Mustang components. With the truck being a 96, it should already be MAF anyways, I thought.
For what a supercharger kit runs you might just be better off starting out with a bigger engin. What did the vortech do to your mpg's???
Back in '97, fuel mileage wasn't a concern . Gas was only a $1/gal.
Truck got a solid 10 mpg daily driving to work. Since I didn't really flog on it constanly, I can't recall mileage getting much worse.
As for the cost of the kit? I got it discounted, through a friend that worked at Summit Racing back in the day. I had the cash and bought it. The truck pulled my 40ft trailer without too much issue anyway, but the blower was too cool to pass up. The 460 was the "big" motor for the day. Things were quite different 15 yrs ago!
That is true. I drive a 95 crew 460 5 speed and put a good 25000 miles a year on it. my mpgs range anywhere from 7 towing to 11 hwy so i'm liking the sounds of a supercharger that would really help on those long hills here in mt, with 17000 pounds of cattle on back.

I guess what I was trying to ask here was if anyone knew how much modification would have to be made to the brackets for the SC if a kit for a mustang was used. I found a couple pics last night that make it look like it can be made to work.. Just don't want to drop so much money to not be able to use it. LOL The ones that look like they would be easier to make work mount on the driver side. The passenger side truck accessories appear to be different, more so than the driver side anyways.. Heck I don't know.. I need to look at it in person.

I can't speak for the OP's truck, but my 95 F150 5.0 has MAF as did my old 96 F150 5.8.
