They are a nice looking tire. By looking at the tread pattern it doesn't look like it would clean very well and turn into basically a slick in snow, mud, dirt and etc. The lack of siping in the tread blocks sure doesn't help either. Probably a good tire if you live in the desert where it gets hot with little rainfall.
I have 2 BFG commercial T/A A/Ss on the rear that are about done. These are on my short list. Sams Club has them for $178. They also have the commercial T/A traction for $175.
The BFG commercial line has been great for me so far. The handling under load is fantastic.
I have had these tires for about a month now and they handle very well. I really like the way they look on my truck and I am very pleased with them. Mine are 285/75/16.
I'm not sure what bumper guard it is. I bought the truck with it already on it and it also had 2 KC lights mounted to the top of it which I removed. I'll look around today if I have the time to find out. I have more pics of it if you want to see what it looks like.
Raidscsi, the bumper guard is called a Waag Frontrunner. It didn't have any labels on the bumper itself, but I did a little research on google and found it. At least now I know what it is as well.
I'm surprised you guys like the Rugged Trail. That was a OEM tire for the 04-08 F-150. Nothing but problems. Ford had to replace who knows how many thousands of them. Uneven wear, cracking, couldn't balance. Tire couldn't handle the weight of a 1/2 ton.
Unless there is something different from the C rated vice the E rated
These rugged terrain look much better, but I'm interested in their long term report. Hopefully BFG kept from translating those issues into this new tire.
there is quite a bit different... So much, in fact, that other than the tread pattern and the name, there is nothing really comparable...
really? you mean there is more to it than a simple change in the lettering?
*insert snide comment that is guaranteed to start a pissing match...that I removed to prevent*
The basic rubber charicteristics will be the same. The Rugged Trail is/was a worthless tire in the Load range C and Passenger series. Is the E rated that much different in material composition? Yes I know it has more steel belts and whatnot.
Owner opinions vary so much on tires, I don't think anyone can say, this tire is worthless, or that tire is crap. All you can say is that they didn't suit your needs. Obviously, a tire that suits nobody's needs is not going to remain on the market. Some people even like Contitracs.
I was completely satisifed with the factory Rugged Trails on my truck. And if they had made them in more sizes with an E rating, I would have bought them again. In fact, I bought one for my spare. But they didn't make one in the 18" size that I swapped in. Now that I own these Rugged Terrains, it appears to me that they are a little more aggressive than the Rugged Trail. The manufacturers photos didn't do them justice, IMO. But make no mistake, they are not a T/A and they are not a M/T, so don't expect them to be. But they are much less expensive than the T/A, and will behave better on the road and last a lot longer than the M/T.
I have had great success with all the sets of A/T KO's that I have had over several trucks! Not sure I want change. Great Traction and decent wear...
FGT
My new F250 has the E rated Rugged Trails. I only have 2k miles on them so no opinion yet. My 03 F150 had a set of BFG All Terrain TA/KOs when I traded it. I both loved and hated those tires. They wore pretty well. I had 35k miles on them and they had another 10k or so of wear left. Snow traction was very good, mud was ok. They have a pretty hard rubber compound and were quite slick on wet pavement. Also, the road noise steadily increased as the tires wore. I kept them rotated and balanced but they still got noisier. I would consider owning a set again but will definitely shop around when the time comes to replace my current tires.

I'm with you TYLUS, BFG's have not worked on my '04, but name recognition means more to some, I switched to a no advertising, Mastercraft made by Cooper, but they outperform Cooper as far as I'm concerned and are by far the best tires I've ever had
Michelin LTX A/T2 are the only way to go! I've had BFG's, Coopers, Pirelli's, none of the have lasted for more than 65000 mi. on my F350's I currently have a set of Michelins with over 100,000 miles on them and still have enough tread on them that I am not afraid to go into another Minnesota winter with them.
