BFG Rugged Terrain

Not to be confused with Rugged Trail or All Terrain. BFG has introduced a new tire called Rugged Terrain. Appears to me to be an improved version of the Rugged Trail. Not as agressive as the TA KO.

Tirerack.com has them listed, but no specs yet.

Anyone found them yet? Anyone running them?

I'm very interested in these for my next set. I like the sidewall tread wrap. Looks like a good selection of sizes in E load range, which was missing in the Rugged Trail. Here is one early review page:

I liked mine too. I think the Rugged Terrain is going to replace the Rugged Trail.

I'll stick with my Rugged Trails as long as I can...

Those look a hair too aggressive. The rugged trails are nice because they are a street tire that will bite soft ground... Which means they are quiet, slow to wear, and still get through.

I have 17" Rugged Trails on my 04 Explorer, (I know this is the SuperDuty Forum),,,with over 52 k on them, only rotated once, and they still have like 50 % tread on them,,,they Do wear Great, and decent traction on snow.

I am going to have to add these to the growing list of tires to research. They look like a good cross between highway and all-terrian.

Actually from the link And pic they look less aggresive than the rugged trails. Not a bad thing. I only have 5000k on my rugged trails and like them alot except for the problem that they do not shed gravel. I dtive 5 miles on dirt roads a day and the tread is full of pea size gravel ehich makes them load and annoying. That is the only reason i would not pick them again.

I thought they looked less aggressive as well, but it is a bit hard to tell from just a photo. The wrapped tread might be a little better in mud and snow. I just hope they expand the E rated offerings. I moved up to 18" wheels, and they don't have an E in the same size as the stock 18's in the Rugged Trail line. Tirerack.com is showing a 275/70-18E Rugged Terrain. That didn't exist in the Rugged Trail line.

The TA KO is a little more aggressive than I need and tread life is only fair.

I bought a set of these last week. So far so good. They balanced well, run very quiet, and look good on the truck. These are 275/70-18E.

I liked the Rugged Trail for towing and street use, but for mud, wet grass and snow they were hardly adequate. I recent;y had a set of the T/A KOs in 285/70R18E installed on the truck. They balanced out fine and so far have been very smooth and quiet. They are rated for severe snow, which I need here in NE Wisconsin.

I thinks this design is really good for shedding water on highways, certain dirt/gravel terrain etc,but not the best for snow.
I have somehting similar to what you pic on my montero sport and theyre good on everything except the snow ive experienced
Ive had All Terrain KOs which ,if I recall, are a tad more agressive than the pic you posted. They were totally inadequate on my 4x4 van conversion with full self contained. 8000lb? Even on my 2800 lb PU 4x4.
For both, the snow was only 1 ft deep and i couldnt move far in my driveway(decomposed granite). The tires just spun. The weight just compresses the snow into the tread openings and packs under each tire .its like having slicks. Larger block tread will tend to break up the compressed snow as they spin, dig and throw out clumps of the snow ice and dirt. That has been my experience.
I compromise to keep noise down. I just throw on the chains in dry ground or snow when needed, cant beat em.

Those look much better on a truck than I expected. Thanks for updating your original post.

I find it interesting the the "performance ratings" on the BF Goodrich website say these tires have a lower wear life than the classic A/T KO's

I have had these tires for about a month now and they handle very well. I really like the way they look on my truck and I am very pleased with them. Mine are 285/75/16.

I have about 1000 miles on mine and so far I like them. Quiet on the highway and pretty decent offroad traction. I haven't had them on snow or ice yet but wet pavement traction seems to be good as well.
