new IP pump
So when i did my engine swap last winter the old engine had a new raman. IP pump that i removed. I havnt used it yet but I know it works. I wasnt sure how to store it so I just placed it on the shelf. No bag or anything around it. Its in my barn but in a place with out any dust or small particles. I plan on intstalling it this summer. Is theere anyway i should prep it for install? I know it would have been better to put in feul/oil mix but to late now. Its been sitting there for just over a year now.

What do you mean about the drive gear exposed? Did you pull the gear cover/oil fill with the pump attached? And the drive gear is really a gear thats sticking out the bottom?
Remove the cover from the front, its two 1/2" bolts. Under there you will see 3 - 12 point bolts, remove with 5/16" socket. Pull the pump out from the gear cover. Thats how its supposed to be removed. DO NOT take the gear cover off your current motor, moving that drive gear will screw the timing, and its not so easy to get the gear back in the right spot without removing the front cover of the motor.
The pump should be fine just sitting if you had been using good fuel before. However, dust and other particles could get into the fittings that lead to the injectors. Those particles can mess up the injectors. If you don't want to take the top off, you should be able to pour fuel either into the outlet at the top of the pump, or stand it on end and pour into the large fitting at the end of the pump, thats the fuel inlet. Then turn the pump over by hand to pump clean fuel out all of the injector fittings and flush any particles out of them. Then cover all the fittings until you have it installed.

Im not home or id take a picture to show you. I unbolted the assebmly with two bolts going into the water pump. The whole assembly i removed has the oil filler neck, pump and lines. The gear sticking out the bottom is a cross tooth gear about in inch wide and maybe 5" round. Than behind that filler neck housing is the actual pump? I didnt remove any covers.

The pump is still fine. You just removed the drive gear, and the drive gear cover with oil fill in the process. Since that was an old engine you're no longer using, who cares??
BUT, if you go to swap it DON"T TAKE THE OFF THE RUNNING ENGINE! Thats what we're saying.
I can't really find a good picture to show you what we're talking about, but look here:
