I dont have a hoist so the arms swing in. Is it possible to jack and block the cab up high enough to roll the chassis forward ( no bed on it) to get to the engine. How high would it have to go? Has any one did it this way? Any Ideas?
thats pretty high that you would have to go. if it was me and i wanted to remove the cab i would make a brace that a fork lift could pick up. ie go though the windows or something and just be careful. I have seen 1 and only one guy do it this way and worked out great for him but everyone else has a lift if they pull the cab. alot of guys now are just removing the a/c box and not having very many issues
You can remove the radiator support and pull the engine out the front. What work are you needing to do? Head gaskets you can do with the cab on and engine in place.

So you are saying the engine will come out the front. I am just thinking of the worst case snero. I finally made the deal after a month of haggling and owner could not sell it on Craigs list.. 2003 F450 6.L cab & chassis 5 speed. Finally got him down to $2300. 163,000 miles. All he can tell me is a turbo went bad and engine is locked up. (any thing I should look for before I jump into taking it out) So I imagine it is junk. Will be leaving tomorrow for northern Iowa. 700 miles one way. Will be pulling it back with my 97 F350 7.3
ya pull the oil filter and see if the stand pipe is there. if its is you may have soem hope. if its melted go buy an engine as you cant fix that one.
next pull the glow plugs and see if any are melted. thats a sign of a runaway.
from there try to crank it over.. see if itys hydrolocked
after that if it spins pver to a compression test
