Anyone installed a long stick floor shifter with an auto c-4? I am thinking of using a Lokar floor shifter or something similar and would like to hear back from those that used and you liked, and also how much cutting was required in the floor pan during the install.
I don't have a long handled shifter, but I did install a B&M Z-gate floor shifter. All I had to do was drill four mounting holes for the screws and an 1" hole with a hole saw for the cable to run through. The good thing about the Z-gate is that it comes with all the brackets to work with a lot of different transmissions.
Did you build it up on a platform so that you could reach it better or did you mount directly to the transmission tunnel. The Lokar type kits would require a much bigger hole I know because they mechanically attach to the transmission and have to be able to move through the range. Also....what did you do with you column mount shifter and neutral safety switch?
That's another good thing about the Z-gate, it has built in NSS and Back-up light switches so all you have to do is tie into the existing wires. The only thing I did to raise it up just a little was I used regular lug nuts as spacers under it.
Hmmm...I'm going to look into that option as it would be much cheaper and an easier install. What is the length of that shifter? Do you ever shift or do you let the tranny shift? Also, is your truck semi gloss or matte finish? Does your bodywork need to be perfect for that flatter color in black look good. I am close to laying down my final coat of Epoxy primer and then I will spray with some 2k urethane, but just wanted to know how straight I need to be for it to look good.....cause I have lately been thinking of a semi flat finish.
It's flat, and I wasn't worried about the body work on mine it still has lots of dents and imperfections in it. I just wanted it all one color for cheap. LOL
It's about a foot high. I have to reach over to shift it into Drive and stuff but I don't care. I always just put it in drive and go, but it will ratchet up from 1st on a C4 because of the pattern from 1st, 2nd, then Drive. I love it! and it was great for the price I thought.
I think the rachet kind is better. I have a lokar on a brand x car and would never buy another one. nothing but trouble. Part of the time it will only go in to drive,n,r,park. The neutral safety switch works in park and drive and has been adjusted many times per instructions. The **** rattles unless you rest your hand on it, they are junk.
