manual to automatic

Ok so I have a 1966 f100 short bed
With a fresh rebuilt 302 4 barrel 4.11 rear gears and a np435 trans floor shift
I want to switch to either a c4 or c6 floor shift but I have a few questions

Will a need a different flywheel/ starter
What shifter arm do I use and what's the best floor shifter

Thanks

Sorry OSO, First time that I have seen your post.

There is a different rear engine wheel, straight drives use a flywheel to match up with the clutch and autos use a flexplate to reach the starter and turn the torque converter. I believe I am correct that both use the same starter.

The lighter C4 is a better choice for the smaller 302. Have you thought of using a 90s truck AOD for some MPGs out on the road?

Is a power steering, power disc brake up grade in your future? With the 302 you can go up to 79, but with the FE engine 76 was the last year for me. I did a major swap all at once on my 66, rebuilt the engine, swapped to a C6 auto, swapped the I-beams for power disc, added power steering all at once because there are a few overlay parts. The Saginaw steering gear requires the column to be swapped so it is a great to think about doing all at once while the truck is down.

I'm with John....I'd definitely consider an AOD trans, especially with 4.11 gears in the rear! If you want a floor shifter, take a look at the Lokar options.

AOD is not, EAOD is.

The easiest way to tell an AOD from an AODE/4R70W is that an AOD has three sets of input splines going into the converter, and has a smaller screw in neutral switch on the driver side of case instead of plastic bolt on type. AOD is cable controlled, not electronic. Like Randy said check into Lokar shifter as well as cable set up to switch over if that's what you decide. We put an AOD in my son's '66 with 4.10 gears and it cruises down the highway at 75mph with no problems whatsoever.
