Hey guys, i was wonderin if any kits are sold specifically for our trucks (mine would be a 77 f-150, C6, 400) for floor shifters. I can get my current column fixed if i wanted but i really want to put in a floor shifter. If there arent any specific kits how hard are the universal kits from like B&M or Hurst to install? thanks.
I would recommend Lokar, they make some that are tall enough so you won't have to reach and they also don't use shift cables that can be trouble some over time.

So theoretically (I hate spelling) if I order a lokar for a C6 it would bracket up fine right? My only concern is that since our trucks are so old that it wouldn't mount right.
The ones I am thinking of bolt to the transmission itself and come through a boot like a manual shifter would. I think you would just order one for a C-6 in what ever height you want. If the transmission case has shift enough to where it won't bolt up I think you have bigger problems.

Yes I think the shifters that mount to the top of the transmission are better than the ones that mount to the floor because you don't have drive line movement interfering with the shifter and you get a short solid rod instead of a long cable. I can't tell you what you want this is just my opinion.

The B&M has a cable and all the required brackets to make it work for the C6. It's also tall enough that I don't have to move at all to reach it even though it's on the far side of my t-case shifter (remember, it's the truck one). It does mount to the floor, but since it has a cable to shift with, there is really nothing to it. No bindage, simple installation and an easy mechanism/shifting pattern to figure out.
My column shift was giving me problems before I installed this and it's great not having to argue with it any more. The only thing that I have noticed is that I did have to adjust the cable a little after the first few miles in order to get it to shift exactly right (it was real close initially), but that's a 5 minute operation and not a negative really.
I'm sure that there are better shifters out there (such as the Lokar) but for the money this ones plenty reliable, very easy to install and shifts really well.
I use a B&M star shifter. I have it spaced up about 3/4 from the floor by using some extra lug nuts as spacers between the floor and the bottom of the shifter. I have to lean over some to reach it but I don't care. It's a little cheaper than the truck mega-shifter so that's another reason I chose it. It also comes with new NSS, Reverse light switch, and all the brackets to work a C6.
My column linkage was hitting the header collector is the main reason I switched.
A little off topic, but I have been keeping my eyes open for a set of captains chairs and center console with floor shift out of a new f 150. I think that would be pretty sweet retro'd into a dent. My problem is, 1 seat and 2 sons. lol...dont know if I can commit to it yet.
I'm, planning on getting some 40/20/40 seats to install, but anyway i like the simplicity of the Lokar shifter, but some of there boots look like they require wiring which is not my specialty. Nobody can beat the looks of the B&M with that T handle and their bootts look pretty simple. I dont know wat to get!!!
