I bought this today at an auction. It's crazy but the only person I was bidding against was a scrapper. Someone else outbid me and paid too much for the slick I went to buy.
One owner. Three gas tanks. Great Alaskan "pop up" Camper. Propane tank below bed. Chrome on the cluster looks new. 3 spares from AlCan trips. After the owner died 4 years ago a friends son drove it to Portland and parked it. Can you believe that his wife made him get rid of it? Every house needs at least 10 Ford pickups! I called the number on the "for sale" sign inside the cab to find this out. I was told I could have all the trucks records too if I came and picked them up. Amazing.
Oh yeah, the reason for the post. I need a ashtray to match the truck!
i like the truck how does it run and whats the body look like? im a fan of old campers on these trucks whats it look like inside the camper? its great you saved this from scrap its to good try looking on ebay craigslist your local junkyards for an ash tray or the classified section of this site
Nice rig you got there! That's pretty much my dream truck right there, an f-250 with 4spd tranny and an Alaskan camper! Great save, always good to see another one saved from the crusher!
Do you have any pictures of the inside of that camper? After my truck is running better I'd like to get one for it. Those old Alaskan campers are some of the best out there, they built them to last a good long time.
By the time I got home tonight it was too dark to take more pictures. I'll try tomorrow.
This truck is incredible. I can't wait to pick up the rest of the records. The waranty folder and card were in the glove box along with almost every registration card since 1971. Tons of gas receipts, boy I long for those prices. The window sticker was in the glove box but it had been torn in half and all the prices on the right were gone.
The only damage to the body looks to be once to the passengers door. I think most of the paint will buff out. The hood does need to be painted as does the top of the cab.
I don't think that the truck has ever been without a camper. I opened the access/storage door on the left rear only to find a tow chain and firewood. The inside of the bed is pristine.
On to the camper... This thing is way cool! I put the jack handle in and pumped the top up into position. It does have a leak in one of the hydraulic cylinders. It sprayed a little oil but once it was up and the pressure was off all was fine. The wood on the interior is wonderful. It's real wood not the plastic covered crap that is used in today's campers. There was propane in the tank and the stove works.
The camper had all the AlCan goodies in it. There were multiple replacement headlights, a spare starter and alternator, belts, hoses, caskets, plugs, points, rotor, dist cap, etc, etc.
I just bet with fresh gas and a new battery that old 360 will roar back into action. I can't wait for daylight tomorrow. Before I head off to work it is going to get blasted with the pressure washer.
Im with you Spots i beleive so too I LOVE THIS TRUCK reminds me of my dad's that he had when I was a kid if you ever decide to sell that thing let me know ill come up with the money some how lol, my dad had one almost exactly like it man i loved that truck
I think I will own this truck a long time. Ones like this don't come along very often. I put some more pictures in my gallery that were taken after I pressure washed this morning. I have bought and sold I don't know how many trucks, mostly 1966 trucks. I have never gotten a truck like this one. I'm stuck at work now and can't wait to get home and pull the plugs to add a little oil and let is sit all night. I already have 10 gallons of fresh gas.
Here are a couple good ones.
Yep, still on the visor after 40 years!
Tucked behind the front seat.
Yes, those are the bolts for the plates. Still in the glove box.
Wow, I say, wow!! Those starting instructions are pretty neat, I never knew they had them! That thing is a treasure for sure, I cringe to think that it was destined for the scrapper- I'm glad you got to it first!
