few more.keep in mind iv got a new radiator,and this is fairly new coolant with low miles still.this isn't a poorly kept truck.
that there is factory sand casting that doesn't get removed from the coolant system any other way.
truck currently has 76k miles at time of this post.
oh fyi;
i didn't bother to drain any coolant.i just placed a rag below the filter and spun her off.
what little bit came out hardly was worth talking about.no shutoff valves required for me.
(but having your new filter ready to screw right back on doesn't hurt either lol.)
resurrecting this thread here lol...did it **** out a lot of coolant when you went to change the filter since you didnt have the ball valves?
ive been running mine for years now with no issues. it will **** a little coolant when I change filters but I just do it quickly....just make sure theres no pressure on your coolant system, I cut the bottom off a Folgers can that I put under it so I don't make a mess on my inner fender
I saw the topic and just wanted to add my .02 cents, I did not read the previous posts though so forgive me if this is not new information.
I previously saw the post about adding a coolant filter and decided I was going to do it, I did it last summer. But before I did it I also came across this youtube video
where he explains how to do a "Super Flush". I found I got the same results, I kept my water from each flush and saw a noticeable difference between my first and last sample, I probably did it a total of 10 times.
Also to note I accidently did not plumb the filter in as a bypass and started to notice no heat in the cab, as well as engine running cooler. I fixed that and changed the filter, it looked pretty crumby. So now I am on my second filter, not sure when I will pull it.
One more thing, I recently added an external coolant heater since my block is susceptible to cracking with a block heater. What I noticed is there is a ton of gunk at the bottom of my engine where the drain plugs are, I wasn't able to get it out but I can't remember if when I did my flush if I remembered to pull them.
Anyway just thought I would share, carry on.
