I have a 76 F250 Highboy w/ the 360. It has an Autolite 2bbl carb. This weekend I swapped the original exhaust manifolds for a set of Hedman Headers. There was one tube from the original manifolds to the carb for the choke so I put on a manual choke to eliminate this problem. There was an adapter for the stock air cleaner assembly, I eliminated the air cleaner with a K&N setup.
My question lies with the remaining tube that was on the manifolds. It was right next to the choke tube and ran to the bottom of the carb. Can I just cap it off? Whats it for? truck seems to run fine with out it.
i think that's for your egr valve. if you've eliminated it with the manual choke and headers, then i'd say there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't cap it off.
One line should go from the air horn of the carb to the exhaust manifold, the other goes from the exhaust manifold to the choke on the carb.
The choke functions by pulling filtered air from the air horn of the carb through the exhaust manifold. This heats the air, then it goes from the manifold to the bi-metallic spring in the choke.
To answer your question, get rid of the line and cap the line where it goes into the air horn of the carburetor.
