Spent the last three days knocking out the list of things to do to the truck. Started with installing the Hypermax Cowl Induction set-up. That only took a couple of hours and there is a noticeable difference in engine noise and it definitely seems to have a little extra pick-up in the higher rpm's. The kit is pretty money and works perfectly.
Next came re-installing the rear fuel tank. I pulled both to clean them out and install extensions on the senders to get the full capacity. I used heavy duty fuel line and a brass T at the end. After installing the rear tank and going to fill it up I noticed a huge fuel leak.
The old stock system:
That led to today's duty of pulling the whole bed off and fixing the rear tank. I had originally pulled each tank from underneath which sucks with 5-7 gallons still in them. After pulling the bed today, having easy access to both tanks' sending units, fixing the misaligned lock ring, and then power washing the chasis, all was well and the bed went back on no problem.
25 years of gunk:
I sure wish I had pulled the bed in the first place. Dropping each tank was not a good idea and made life much harder. I think I'll pull the bed back off when I swap the rear-end out from 4.10 peg-leg to 3.55 limited slip and a sway bar.
Pulling the bed makes everything so much more accessible back there. While mine was off I did ujoints, shocks, carrier bearing, Xfer case output seal, and a bunch of fuel tank work.
