'98 Ford Expedition 5.4L 4x4..... I'm having a problem getting 4WD to engage .. .. .. period. I have checked all the fuses (all are new)and wiring harnesses (all seem to be in good shape and don't have any visible damage). My problem is no matter which form of 4WD is selected nothing engages and the indicator light does not illuminate. Anyone have any tips or thoughts on where to look next? Thanks in advance!

Check the vacuum lines to/from the actuator. Could also be a faulty switch.
This is what mine did when the position sensor inside the shift motor fell apart. I took it apart and was able to fix it. Search the forums for shift motor and you should find some threads on how to check them out. Often it is a quick fix that can save a bunch of money by avoiding buying a new unit.
