Question 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac will not engage 4wd Low

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac that will not engage 4wd low when the dash switch is turned to that position.

When set to 4wd High it operates perfectly and engages 4wd.

Has anyone reported a similar problem. Could it be a faulty switch or solenoid?
Is there a good factory service manual availabe for the Sport Trac?

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you putting your tranny in neutral first? If not, it ain't gonna happen.

I also believe that you need to step on the brake as well.

I just bought a 2002 Sport Trac as well. Of course, I had to try out the 4x4 system. To get 4WD Low to work, I had to stop, depress the brake, put the auto tranny in neutral, turn the switch to 4x4 Low and wait for the 4x4 Low light to come on. Put into drive and you are in business. I did the same as you at first. I switched to 4x4 Low after I had stopped, but no light came on. I had to dig the manual out of the glove box to figure it out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the assistance, 4wd Low works just fine when following your procedure.
