Unfortunately that scenario will continue to play out as long as scrap prices continue to rise, these trucks hold no sentimental value to yard owners and scrap dealers, it's much more cost effective and profitable for them to just crush these trucks for scrap than it is to part them out over a period of years, it's simple economics, sad but true.
i know and most people that do that will not sell them it makes me sick but i try to save them from the scrap yard when i can afford it its tragic but what can u do
I wanna beat a *** now.... There was at least 90-100 parts in the first grab that I could of used....
I do scrap trucks and cars. But if we get trucks like these we save every single useable piece. When we're done all that's left is a bare cab shell and a frame. .... That was just a waste...
Well, it serves the ******* right... probably only got $200 for the scrapped truck rather than putting the truck up for sale and getting $1500+... maybe more.
It was a quick look, but the truck looked to be in really good shape especially the cab and front clip. The grille even looked to be in great shape.
you know there is a guy within a hour drive of me, had a truck just like that but a 78. He wanted 800 told him id take it. Never heard back. Called and called, emailed. Left voicemails then gave up. Called him about 2 weeks ago. Said he got tied up with stuff and scrapped it................................................ some people, the truck ran fine and was four wheel drive seriously i was pissed.
Very hard to watch. So many solid vehicles are being crushed. That one looked to be in better shape than the one I am driving now. The "cash for clunkers" program also took alot of good vehicles as well. I hate watching them get crushed when there are so many good parts left.
But like it was stated earlier it oftentimes is a matter of economics. All we can do is save them when we can afford to and pass on the parts to fellow enthusiasts.

Some people are just lazy and outright stupid. You see it all the time. People will either just take trucks straight to the crusher and not even try to sell them or people will try and sell them and overprice to make some big bucks but when they don't sell them quick they get lazy and take them to the crusher without even dropping the price to get the trucks sold to someone who might need them. Hell, trucks like that I'd give scrap price all day long (right now anyway) and throw in a case of beer with each sell.
It's worse when junkyards won't sell the entire trucks either and then just end up crushing them. My father in law has a small junkyard with some trucks and most of them have been sitting and picked over the years so there isn't much good as far as sheet metal, but there still is good parts out there. With scrap prices going up, I told him that I want first dibs and picks over trucks for me to have and I'd just give him scrap price. Of course I'd pick some of the more complete ones, but still try to save some.

Last year there was several ads and the posters said they want way to much and if no one will buy it at that price they will scrap it. A few ads I called on and they said no they wanted their asking price or were gonna scrap it for almost nothing but no inbetween. Sometimes I just want to beat the snot out of people.
and yes i have yet to encounter a vehicle at a junkyard i want to buy but the local ones i believe will sell them alot of them even have titles. However when i used to work security at a metal recycling plant(alters in council bluffs iowa) Id see beautiful classics roll in by the truck loads, seriously a day didnt go buy i didnt see what could have easily been a saveable car even seen 3 1952 ford pickups which is on my "someday" list. 2 of them looked to have almost no rust and in great shape minus the buicks and caddies sitting ontop of them.......
Yea I've tried to buy them from scrapyard before n either they won't sell them or they want way to much for them but I still snag everyone I can so guys let do what we can to save the parts that we can as they are getting hard to find

Those people really don't make any sense at all. They could have been trolls just to get us all up in arms over the topic.

see one of them i figured that was probably the cause but another no, this guy was for real. he said it basically was fine for him to sell for his price because he would then be able to afford the down payment on a hybrid. However if he didnt get that price he would scrap it because he would sleep easier knowing one less gas guzzler was on the street. i proceeded to hangup because those guys make as much sense as a prius owners showing up to car shows with their trunks/hatches open showing off their subs...
Oh that hurt watching that video. Sad to see a good truck go like that.
In California the state will give you $1000 to scrap your gross polluter and to some people that good enough for them. I get that letter from DMV every year when my registration goes up for renewal. I shred my letter with joy.
