I have to disagree that the Ford trucks bring more money than Chevys. Chevys are way easier to lower and modify than a Ford. BUT when yo DO build a Ford, it will last a lifetime...unlike that high priced Chevy.....this statement is based on local(California) prices.

Thought you guys may like to see this.
What I emailed him:
"If you are going to crush the trucks and get maybe 300 dollars each, then why won't you come down on the price?

I'm poor and to far away to buy them myself but these are classics, why send them to the crusher?

I'm sorry and mean no offense but it just seems dumb and idiotic to send to salvageable classic's to the crusher when there are people out there that will buy them and restore them.

At least part all the good stuff off of them, parts are getting hard to find and expensive when you do find them for these old trucks."

His response:
"220 a ton and the pair weighs 4 ton, do the math, plus scrap the radiators,i don't think i'm wrong in asking scrap price and friday morning they headed to the crusher"

When some ignorant person calls my truck a gas guzzler just because it's old, I tell them you find me a new pickup with a conventional engine that will get better than 21 MPG on average, and we'll discuss it.

Shame about the mentality of some people.

Are you guys saying the guy with the 58's crushed them already? Im currently looking for a 57-60 styleside in ok shape to drive for the next few years while im back at college. It will eventually transform into a rockwelled 6x6 when I get a decent job and house. My Excursion is parked safely in my mother's garage cause I cant afford to register the damn thing after all of the Cali back penalties.

I wonder if the one truck will run after a tune-up? I plan on spending less than 1500.00 for a runner.
Why don't you offer the guy 800 for one if he can get it running? Then offer to take parts off the other for a little more when you get there?
Register it and park it near home haha

I can't stand watching these kinds of videos. I not a Chevy guy but it still upsets me when I see when I see a nice old classic car or truck get crushed regardless of make. I realize they are only things and they don't have feelings, but I hate seeing good and useful stuff go to waste.
I too have scrapped out a couple Ford trucks (among other types) over the past few years, I hated doing it... but they were most definately at the end of their useful life. Typically when I get ready to scrap out a vehicle I call anyone and everyone I can think of to see if there is anything they might want or need from it. When I haul it down to the crusher it's a completely gutted shell... I try to save, reuse, or resell anything I possibly can. They don't make em anymore, so save what you can while you can.

I dont like it either...although it did make me think. After the crane drops it the fist time it is topless. I think a nice low, laid out long bed crew cab (thats the 4 door one right?) would look sweet chopped and made into a convertible.

I save some and I junk some. For instance I 58 ford pickup will weigh around 3300lbs so at $220 a ton, local prices It will bring $363 plus about $40 for the radiator so $450 is a fair asking price. Before I will sell something real cheap I will scrap it, if the vehicle is so great paying $50 more than scrap price should not be a big deal. I will usually try and sell stuff first at a little higher than scrap price since you have to deal with people. I have also made money buying trucks from a local yard and selling them/parting them out. I bought a 76 f-150 with a running 460 for $400. Pulled the engine and trans, loaded up 3 scrap engines and got $550. I also bought a good looking 65 f-100 swb for $370 from the same yard. It sat on the trailer for a couple weeks and my uncle asked about it. I didn't care to sell it but said I would sell it for $600 if he wanted it. he wrotte the check before I could show him the bad spots, guess I priced it to cheap lol. heres a pic of it

It's all good that people make money however they want too because the economy calls for it. It just sucks that good trucks get crushed. That truck in the pic looks pretty good. $450 would be good price. But asking say $900 and threaten to crush it would suck.

I cant stand seeing old stuff crushed, or for that matter, in a state of disrepair. Im not old enough to remember a time when everything wasnt cheap chinese crap, but Ill be the first to admit that anything old is better than everything new.
