That's why I really like a couple of the salvage yards near me. They accept and put out older Ford pick-ups 60s to early 80s, but they keep them out in the yard for what seems as long as possible for all the guys to get what they need. BEFORE they go and send the carcass to the crusher/ shredder.

That video almost makes it seem like it was a couple Chevy guys being complete jerks in regards to that pick-up. The scrap heap where it was unloaded shows no signs of other vehicles getting torn apart in that manner.

On the other hand, I wouldn't feel the least bit of guilt doing that to a 70s Chevy truck. Then again, Chevy trucks, for the most part, do not command the value of Fords around here (Colorado). Even a Chevy diehard recognizes that. Apparently those knuckleheads didn't.

Josh, another thing, Chebbie made far more trucks in the '70s than Ford did.

Do you guys find it rather ironic that GM (Chevy) sponsors ads on our Ford Truck Enthusiast forums?

Just a note....

that was the first thing i noticed when i registered...i wasnt sure if i typed the address in wrong, or if it was a thing of hilarity. I suppose having chebbie throw its money away on advertising at us can be enjoyed on their expense.

Ford has been the #1 selling truck since 1977, and in the intervening years traded back and forth with Chevy from 68-76. So to say Chevy far out sold or out built Ford is a far cry.

Don't forget the Ford truck has been not only the #1 truck for 34 years, but the #1 VEHICLE for 29 years.

Not only do 70s Fords command more money than Chevy and Dodge, but so do the 80s trucks and the 90s trucks. Year for year Fords command more money used. Only a Dodge Cummins truck pulls more (no pun intended) money than a comparable Ford truck.

Well, the last dent we had was flipped and the frame was tweaked on landing and the cab was of course crushed. And plus, we have to make som imediate money back to buy the next heavy @$$ lincon, chevy, or othe caddie, the only real rule we have is NO old fords (pre-96) goes straight to the yard.. Which is nearly every ford truck.

I think we payed 200 or 300 for the flipped truck and the bed was rusted out and frame tweaked, and the cab crushed. All that was left was doors, bed and frame when we hauled it out of the shop.

We have found one that's a flat bed, we hope to buy it for 400 or 500 and after I strip all the stuff I need for my 78 it will be on its way, if anyone is looking for something specific, TELL ME and I will keep an eye out for it!

I'm too poor and too far away to get these...

... I did send a email letting them know I thought it was dumb to hold the price there and then take them to the crusher and get half of the asking price and lose 2 classics never to be driven again...

Very displeased...

Do they even pay $450 each scrap for those? My 2 favorite yards only pay half price for vehicles with no title.

And what's the deal with only posting for a week before scrapping them?

selling to a u-pull-it or pick-n-pull he might get 300 or so for the one with the title...i could afford it at that price but getting it too me would be the problem. I could swing 450 for the pair but he might just barely get more in scrapping them and like i said i dont have a way to get them too me, nor have i heard of chapman nebraska either....oh well. that year/look is not something i like but i can see the potential and i am sure someone would be more than happy to pay that for those, but that person more than likely wont see the add before its too late.

That guy will end up making maybe half that if he's lucky and two good ol trucks will end up gone forever. I know every old vehicle can't be saved, but dang it, crush the ones that are so far gone and nothing left. If I lived closer to my father in law, I'd be stripping down as many vehicles as I could while saving complete ones and organizing most everything and targeting the internet market. Yes, it would take time, but that's all I'd have into it and it would give me something to do on the side since I like that kind of stuff and also give me/him extra money. He's older and his salvage isn't what it used to be so many older things are just sitting and waiting for one day him to make that decision to crush everything. He doesn't have the time or resources to spend in the internet market/shipping so it's kind of a waste.

The trouble with scrap going up is that it's bringing all those idiots out like who posted that ad. It's also tough for people to get trucks/cars cheap to save em. It used to be you could get one of our trucks very dirt cheap like around $200 in my hometown often. That's easy to do. When scrap metal drives up the price on basically a parts truck, it's tough to save em for the average person. And with fuel cost going up, even driving a small distance to grab things makes the final price of a truck/car go up even further.

First of all, I was a bit surprised to see a truck in that condition getting scrapped. But, in some areas of the country vehicles just don't rust out that much. That doesn't mean the truck wasn't worn out though. It could have had other things wrong with it that didn't make it worth fixing up to the people who owned it.

Regarding some of the comments on this tread:

I'd put a 70s model Chevy stepside up against a 70s model Ford stepside for resale value any day. I'd also put the early 60s through '71 model Chevy trucks up against the same year Fords for resale value any day. The '89-'91 Chevy trucks seem to bring more than Fords of the same year too. From '92 up the values seem to be pretty close though and the dentside years Fords seem to sell for more than Chevys, except for the stepsides and those rare times when you can find a really really nice 73-79 fleetside Chevy.

The reason you guys see so many Chevy ads on this site is because the program that chooses which ads to put up looks for keywords in the posts. For example, I clicked on a thread here about a hitch from one gen of Ford trucks fitting on another gen. Sure enough, right at the top of the page was an ad for a company that sells hitches. I've also seen ads from businesses in my local area, so I know my IP address is also factored into how the program chooses the ads to put up. So, every time one of you Ford only guys starts in with your Chevy this and Chevy that, you add to your seeing the Chevy ads.

Lastly, scrap prices are really high right now. I just scrapped out the '85 F150 my son trashed. Yeah, it still ran but wasn't worth more than $500. I got $475 for it from the junk yard. I tried offering it on this site and no one lived close enough to come and get it, so I junked it out. I couldn't see the sense in putting an ad on CL and sorting through all the emails and phone calls, just to sell the truck for a little more than I could get for it scrapping it out.

That's different because it would be pretty much a wash and at least you offered it up for pretty much scrap price and not double that and threaten to take it to the scrapper.

Ya. I meant to comment on the buttmunchers that get angry when their truck won't sell for the price they want so they take it to scrap yard. It's like they think they are getting back at the truck or the people who won't give them the price they want. All they are really doing is hurting themselves by junking their truck out when they could have gotten more for it.
