cam gear broke off 460 while installing

I was installing a new gear drive on my 460 and while i was torquing it down the portion that the cam gear rides on broke off in my hand with the gear before full torque. There is about a half inch of thread still going into the camshaft so i was wondering if this has happend to anyone else and they have a fix for it. I just got the engine together and would hate to replace all the gaskets, cam, lifters for something so small. I understand what can happen if i loose the gear under load but there is a grade 8 bolt holding that sucker on and i still have about a half a inch of thread going into the cam does anyone think this will work? Or should i just cut my losses and replace the cam to be on the safe side?

I'd replace it.

I'd like a pic of that.
I don't understand.
The end of the cam broke off?

yeah the end that the cam gear bolts up too. The gear rides on it outside of the block.

This is just a example but in the lower left corner at the front of the cam is what the gear slides onto and then gets bolted down thats what broke off.

I feel for ya man.
That sounds like something that would happen to me!
The worst part is - just getting close to firing it up and then BAM!
a rock drops out of the sky.

Good luck!
