engine swap question

I have a 79 f100 dentside that came with a 302 3sp, I purchased a 351w automatic originally from an 83 police car, Ive added a 4brl intake power steering & hooker longtube headers. recently went to set the engine and I cant get it back into position so that the mounts (original 302) align with the perches. The engine seems to want to bump the firewall before it can go back far enough. Im wondering if its a bad choice of headers (purchased used) or if maybe the engine perches are positioned different for a 351 auto?? I thought from some research that it would drop right in. Anyone have any insight? Im thinking im gonna have to custom cut a driveshaft, so ive considered just moving the perches forward?

If you got the headers on the motor I would try taking them off and setting the motor in. The 351w should set right in with no problem. Are you using the 302 motor mounts, if not try that to. But I believe the motor mounts should interchange. Maybe someone will post in with somemore help for you. Let me know if any of this helps and if not maybe we can figure it out. Also go to the motor section here and post there to. Scott
