Just picked up a 97 f150 4x4, standard shift, with a 4.6. The engine has a miss, and the coolant system gets pressurized as soon as I start the engine. Rather than change the head gasket I was considering swapping out the engine as this one has 146k on it. My vin digit is 6 indicating its a 4.6 winsor motor. I have an opportunity to buy a low mileage 4.6 from 2002 explorer. Does anyone know if the base motors are the same, can I switch my intake and accessories and use the explorers motor. I do not have a vin for the explorer but the label on the valve cover reads as follows, 04/06/01 (year I assume), 1G302BA, REP, 77135973. Any info would be appreciated thanks
for $10. pour this in and see what you think. You got nothing to loose. I have had excellent success with it... leak was probalby not as bad as you mention.

Yes,
4.6 is a 4.6 so you can swap anything you need off of your old motor.
Other then yours has non PI heads and I'm not sure what year the went to PI heads. So you would need to find out if it has PI heads.
The intake-manifold will be different from PI to non PI.
thanks that some good info, the only thing holding me back now is determining the number of bolts that secure the flywheel. My truck is a stick so I'll need to use my flywheel, as I understand it some engines use 6 bolts and others use 8. Read somewhere that windsor motors use 8 and romeos use 6. I'll need to find out if flywheels are available in both configurations
