NOS Side Mirrors
MAULMAUL: Thanks, but don't need any trinkets, cuz I don't own any ol' Ford rolling piles of misery any longer.
But when I did, I went to DC in person 6/2004 (I was in Charlotte attending a Studebaker Club meet), left a pile a dough there.
That's not difficult to do. I live about 35 minutes from the shop...and I'm pretty sure they know my debit card number better than I do. I was there last weekend, as a matter of fact, for a local club's get together.
Note 1978/79: There are two additional different styles of these Stainless Type 9's. Since the dealers installed all the outside mirrors, who knows what Type 9 mirror the truck has?
Dealers would install any mirrors they had in stock...whether it had an application of 1973/77 or 1978/79.
If so, was there a template used to position the holes. I am asking because I have two NOS doors I'm going to install on my truck which do not have the holes drilled for the mirrors and I would like to get it right the first time. I will be using the type 9's off of my 78 F150.
I just got your member name. Jeez am I stupid. Our area code... I live two miles from the speedway and I'm headed out there now for the HUGE car show. I hope to score some goodies for Ol' Red. I didn't know there was a meeting the other week. I would have liked to meet other folks from the area. Guess I should read the local board more often.

HAHA...yessir, you got it. I'll be heading to the show tomorrow. If you feel like giving me a heads up on any 73-79 NOS parts you may see and not be interested in, I'd appreciate it. And if you know the best place to park, share that too, hahaha. As for the meet and greet, it was for a Bronco club, Carolina Broncos, so it wasn't a huge G2G, and is predominantly early Bronco's...but I enjoyed it.
NumberDummy, are you saying these trucks came from the factory without mirrors? Would the dealer drill the doors and instal the threaded inserts for the type of mirror they were installing?

The mirror installation kits had a diagram showing where and what size holes to drill for the mirror installation.
The only mirror (left side only) that was standard equipment (except Camper/Trailer Specials) was the Passenger Car type mirror, attached to the door...adjacent to the vent window with two screws.
Repro parts sellers call this (IMO, by the idiotic name) "Sport Mirror" but Ford never did. This was an el cheapo mirror, cost about 8 bucks.
Unless other mirrors were ordered, all F100/350's came with one (except ^ as noted above). It was placed inside the cab at final assembly.
Even if other mirrors were ordered, they too were placed inside the cab at final assembly.
Besides the obvious of not installing the standard equipment mirror, these trucks were shipped by rail to the district sales offices they were ordered from, then by car haulers to the dealerships.
Having mirrors that stick out past the doors could cause damage to the mirrors and/or the doors during the shipping process...if factory installed.
Thus: All outside mirrors were dealer installed.
