Isn't there a button looking thing on it? Push it in and pull it out.

There is a little tab that holds the **** on. I have managed to break 2 of those.

Any ideas on how to keep the **** from falling off now?

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).

On vehicles with tilt column, position steering wheel (3600) in full down position.

3.

On vehicles with column shift, set parking brake and position shift lever to the lowest position.

4.

Pull headlamp **** to HEAD position.

5.

Insert a small screwdriver onto clip and pull clip and **** outward, removing headlamp ****.

6.

Unscrew headlamp bezel.

7.

NOTE: Wiring is connected to the instrument panel finish panel (044D70).

Remove two exposed screws from under right and left lower instrument panel mouldings.

8.

Unsnap five retaining clips by pulling the instrument panel finish panel rearward starting with the two at the steering column (one each side) and then the three at top of instrument panel finish panel.

9.

Disconnect the wiring from the instrument panel finish panel.

10.

Remove the switch push rod by inserting a punch or similar tool into access hole of headlamp switch (11654) while pulling the push rod from headlamp switch.

11.

Unscrew the mounting nut. Remove the headlamp switch from instrument panel (04320), then remove the wiring connector from the headlamp switch.

Installation

1.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

Follow removal procedures in reverse order.

So I just spent the day wrenching on the 97 F250 with replacing the front wheel bearings and grease seals. And then finished off with the headlamp switch.

My problem is that after connecting everything back together my dome and cargo lamps will not turn off. Now I did idiot proof my work and made sure the selector switch was to the "off" position, made sure the doors were closed, and disconnected the batteries but it still comes back on. Any ideas on what could be my problem?

Is your push/pull switch in the correct location?

I appreciate the help. And after taking everything apart again and putting it back together, to know avail. I just unplugged it all again to take the meter to it all. And sure enough the even though the switch was on "off" the current stayed open.
