Unhappy cooling system nightmare!!!!!! help please!!!!

i have a 351m in my 1989 f350. ever since i got it which is about 6months ago. wen i take her out she runs hot. i start her up go play around in the mudd and cruise and stuff and then about 10 - 15 mins later shes hot. i changed the thermostat to a 180 degree but still ran hot. i believe the water pump work because i have watched the water in the radiator being pumped. i rly want to get this fixed so i can ran her more than just 10 mintues if anyone can help i would greatly apperciate it! old thermostat had the guts taken out of it

in 89 the motor should be a 351w unless it was swapped out. is the motor that is in there EFI?

flush the radiator, make sure there is a fan shroud and perhaps replace the fan clutch.

Not sure on this but can you put a reverse rotation water pump on a normal rotation front cover and visa versa? Just throwing this out there. I'm not sure on this at all.

Yes, I believe it's possible. I once went to buy a new water pump, and the first one that the parts guy brought out looked exactly like mine, except the blades on the impeller were pointed in the wrong direction. Then he brought out the exact replacement, with the blades pointed in the same direction.

pull some plugs and see how they look. are you having to add radiator fluid at all?

The fan clutch usually fails when its viscous fluid leaks. You have to take the fan off of the clutch to see if there are any oily dirt collected between the fan and clutch. If you see that, the clutch needs to be replaced.

My experiences with running hot were related to ignitition timing being off and running lean. I would check to make sure your timing is set correctly (the marker could be off; mine was) and read your plugs to see if you are lean.

Just my 2 cents.

Did you put the new thermostat in the right way? Bridge towards the water neck.
