Hey guys. I had to replace my lower intake gasket and of course had to pull out my disty. Like and A-hole I forgot to mark it. Now I can't get it to time.
I got it to start and I put a light on it but I have no marks on my damper. I have 1 slot that is notched out on the damper TDC? then on the marker I have a circle that you can't in from any angle a curve that leads to a notch in then a curve out to a straight end. Anyone have any advice on how to adjust the timing. I can't find a spout to pull but I swear there should be one right? Where is it? Thanks guys. I'm desperate.
Spout connector should be near the power distro box and ignition control module one the driver's inner fender up near the firewall. Small square grey connector with no wires just an inline connector in the wiring harness. (A note from personal experience: keep an eye on the silly thing once you pull it. I dropped mine down the inner fender and had a devil of a time digging it out). Once pulled, the base timing can be set just like any other engine. The base timing on my 92 302 was 8 degrees BTDC but not necessarily the same for yours. Without any marks on the balancer, that could be more difficult unless you have a light with an adjustable advance.
Wondering how it has no markings unless its been replaced. At any rate hope this helps.

Mine looked as if it had no makings so I went under the truck with a flashlight to get a closer look and there they where so I took a peice of chalk and mark the damper where my timing should be and then I went back up top started the truck pulled the trigger on the light and set the timing the mark worked like a charm
Ok finally I found the marking. What a pain in the ****. Ok. So now.
I mark the 0degree TDC with chalk? Then disconnect the spout. Run the rpms at 2500 or at idle? The I line up my chalk line with where on the braket? The little half circle in? Sorry guys Only had the Bronco about 5000 miles and have never timed once of these. Thank guys U rock.
Warm the engine up to operating temperature. Shut it off and remove the spout connector. Start it up and let it idle. Your timing should be 10 degrees BTDC at idle.
The exact instructions are printed on the same sticker that has the vacuum map. If it's not on the core support or air filter cover, it's probably on the hood.
