I thought if your GCVWR was over 26,000 a CDL is needed.
And if the trailer in tow is over 10,000 then you need a class A.

That's the impression I've always been under.
Quite honestly I don't care because I'm going for my class A as soon as I can afford it so CDL/non-CDL won't bother me.

How is it out of context?
You can tow a trailer up to 10k with a class B.

Not exactly.
You only need a CDL (weight wise) if the CGVWR is over 26k PROVIDED the trailer is over 10k GVWR.
The F550 is a good example.
F550 @ 19.5k GVWR + Trailer @10k GVWR = 29,500 CGVWR but it doesn't require a CDL.

So I could pull a 16k trailer with a F-250 and be fine? I apparently bought the wrong truck.

Guess I was wrong. I was always under the impression that GCVWR over 26,000 = Class A but you're right. I do know for fact you'll need a DOT # for that kind of weight though. I'm not sure where exactly the cut-off is but definitely need one at that weight.

I have them as well, just not put on yet. I am intrastate, and had to get them.

I used to go to Bandimere Speedway in CO. That was always a lot of fun! They have the jet cars as well, which are just crazy to watch.

Got to meet my friendly local conservation officer today. Apparently they call themselves DEP Police now. They get F250s which is pretty cool.
