<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->2004 F350 XL 5.4L- Putting in a 7pin connector, beforehand i tested the terminals on the square plug near spare tire,i have power to all signals,12v,brake control etc.
Except for the black wire with green stripe (backup light) NO POWER.
-I checked the fuse 15A position 39 good
-There is power at fuse.
-harness seems in excellent condition all along frame.
Yes
I guess the easy way would be to run a seperate wire tapped into my trucks backup light, just annoying me.
Thats harness is well protected from the spare tire to the front of truck.
I may have mis read what you said. are you installing a 7 way where there was none originally? If so, the leads for lights and reverse are all tapped off a light. I usually pop the left rear tail light off and tap into those wires. May have to tap into the right TL for right turn. Or. you can get turn, stop and running from the 4 way, but you will still need to get your reverse from a tail light.
The new 7 way your adding will have a diagram as to what goes where. It is universal, all 7 ways are the same.
I just re read your original post. I think the square plug you are tapping into is meant for 5th wheel second 7 way. This may require that connector to be added and mounted in order to get grounded????? I added this 7 way to my 2011 for extra lights, and had some trouble until I secured the 7 way to the truck. I dunno, does this help?
This plug is located about 8"from rear bumper at left near spare tire
Oh of course theres 8 wires to this plug
I was determined to find an OEM plug that fits into this, didnt want to tap into the wires if i didn't need to.
I have found one at junkyard, but the 7pin was busted. So i cut it and used a generic 7pin receptacle. The harness that plugs into this is $200 at dealer(no aftermarket)
Like I said in your other thread, I'd take another look at the need for that relay. The wiring diagram shows fuse 39 going through a relay then to the trailer plug. If there were no relay, it would just tap off of the existing backup light wire and fuse.
