<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_start -->Ok, I've got a couple of other threads going, trying to figure this thing out, but this question is a little different, so I'm posting it to both the electrical forum and the van forum. Working on a '96 E350, 460 gas, w/dual batteries and trailer tow package. In the Power Dist. Box, there is a 60A fuse that is labeled "Trailer tow and aux battery power feed". Can anyone tell me what trailer tow functions this protects? There are other fuses for all of the trailer functions; stop/turn LH & RH, running & backup, running lamps, trailer battery charge & electricbrake controller. As such, is this a redundancy? If it is a seperate circut from all of those others, what does it do? I think that there is a short in this circutl, but not knowing what it protects, I don't know where to look for it.
I suspect that my short might be in the power distribution box, under all of the fuses...does anyone know how to open it up?

In case anyone wants details, we had a meltdown in the trailer plug on the back of the van. We have fixed it, and thought we had everything resolved. However, the 60A fuse labeled "trailer tow and aux battery power feed" is blowing. The 30A "trailer tow running and backup lamps" and the 40A "trailer tow battery charge" both have very weak voltage in the PDB fuse socket, meaning that something is drawing the power down before it gets to the fuse. Any thoughts, ideas, things to check, etc. will be appreciated, because short of getting into the PDB, I don't know what else to do. I am ready to rewire the trailer lights to run off of the van's tail light circut and just bypass the tow circut, but I don't like the idea that I still would have a short in there somewhere that isn't protected by a fuse!
