Is a 460's engine balance affected by the torque converter? Situation: I installed an '88 460/C-6 into my '66 F-100, using all Ford parts. When the transmission failed, started slipping, I bought a rebuilt unit and torque converter. Now I have a serious vibration from 1600 RPM or so, on up to 3000 RPMs (and higher). As this occurs in neutral as well as on the road, it isn't a driveshaft or driveline issue. Could I have been given the wrong torque converter? Any suggestions?
but there is two different crank pilot bore sizes for the 429/460. i am not sure what is the cutoff years or application difference to determine which one you have.
sounds like the converter isn't seated correctly or something is not lined up properly.
did you change anything else when you redid the tranny?
