I have a '79 C6 that was behind a 460, but the engine blew. I picked up a industrial 460 with a heavy duty forged steel crank. As it turns out, the pilot hole on the new engine is 1 inch in diameter. I called a few transmission shops, and they told me that the only 2 sizes for C6/460 torque converters were 1 3/8 and 1 7/8 inch. Is there any torque converter out there that I can put on a 31 spline c6 with a 1 inch pilot hole?
They never made an "industrial 460" ! So you have some issues its either a 429 or 370 lima engine neither will work with a c-6. They are external balance also.

Ok well its not the latter, becaus the block casting is that of a 460. But not that it matters then, because if neither work with a C6, I'm s*** out of luck.

No, you're not.
It's a simple job for a machine shop to modify the converter for you to suit that pilot hole.
