You'll be amazed at the handling improvement that a WDH provides. I've pulled both ways with a similar weight situation and I can't imagine every pulling without a WDH.
I notice that no one mentioned the 'equalizer" hitch. It has the built in sway control and works very well. I bought mine from RVW (RV wholesale)on line. They had the best deal I could find and had free shipping at the time. The advertise they are the last hitch manufacturer that are made in the USA.
I can attest to the function of the hitch as I just returned form a 4789 mile trip towing a 7000 lb travel trailer with my 2010 F150. Coming up through the panhandle of texas and Oklahoma we had winds of 35mph with gusts over 50mph. The hitch worked very well.
I have the 1000lb bars and 10000 may trailer weight.
Also would like to mention that my truck was very much up to the towing and was a pleasure to tow with. If any one is contemplating a 2010 but hesitating bucause the 2011's have more hp, don't worry the 5.4 will tow these weights okay. I live in Montana and went to Arizona then to Victoria Texas to visit my brother so traveled a varied type of terrain with mountain passes. With my cruise set at just over 60mph I climbed all with out even slowing down. Also had snowy conditions 4" or more of snow on the road and the traction control handled it well.
I have hauled cows and calves for 35 years with a 1/2 ton truck with no wdh. Usually around 5000-8000 lbs. Yeah if the cows get to moving around the trailer sways. Thats why you pack them in their tight. Have used a Super Duty the last 6 years and it sways just as much as my F150's did. I just got my new ecoboost last week and havent got to tow with it yet but will just be using the weight carrying receiver hitch. I am curious to see if the anti sway stuff helps, according to Ford's commercial it makes a big difference. Most of my trips are 1 hour or less one way. If I buy a travel trailer and start running miles and miles then I may consider a WDH depending on the weight of the trailer
I towed a 5500 lb tt with my 09 with the 5.4 in it. I did not use the wdh and had the cruise set on 75 all the way and could run off and leave people in the ozark MTS in MO. I love the way it towed.
