Is anyone using them? I have a 2009 F150, 4X4, 51/2 ft box, crewcab, 5.4, 3.73 rear, and Max towing pkg. Looking at if it will help with towing hp. and torque? They claim 30hp gain and 57 torque gain. Does anyone notice the difference in real world towing? We have a 2 horse BP, loaded weight around 5500 to 6000. Noticed one of the features is an economy mode? Is it easy to change back and forth from towing mode to economy mode? As we only tow 10 to 15 times a year.

Check with Mike at 5 star tuning, he is a site sponsor. You can find the link above, he comes highly recommended here. I think PHP is also right up there as well. And welcome to FTE!
I have a cortex on my 2010 5.4 and it is awesome. They update everytime ford does. I had on my 08 expedition too and both times it did wonders for towing and driveabilty. Do it.
What do you mean by "Custom Tuned"? Does that mean I need to go to an SCT or Gryphon dealer? Have not check for Gryphon dealer but the closest SCT dealer is 100 miles away.
Thanks for all your comments.

You get custom tunes via e-mail for the SCT then you just download them onto the tuner via a cable like the one that goes to my printer. You can have up to 3 custom tunes on the SCT X3 at one time, and they are waaayyy better than the generic "canned" tunes that come on the programmer. I haven't tuned my F150 but I monkeyed with a few custom tunes on my diesel and holy friggin' wow! I ran a 100 hp tune for a day or 2 just to see how it ran and it scared the crap outta me. No reason that an 8700 lb truck needs to run like that! But that was a diesel, gassers your results will not be anywhere near that.
Thanks D8!
I am assuming that with 3 custom tunes each can be accessed with a push of a button?
Do the SCT progammers stay connected all the time?
You are welcome. Yes and no, you have to plug it in to the OBD port and go thru a few steps to download the desired tune, then you disconnect it when done. It will have the stock tune stored but it is also a good idea to have it "backed up" on your PC just in case. I am not running tuned on this truck but I have read that the SCT takes awhile to change tunes, it only took ~ 5 min on the diesel. Maybe someone else can chime in, I'm sure if you contact one of the preferred tuners mentioned they can give you all the info you need. I hope I haven't given you any mis-information as its been awhile.
The HP and TQ gains from a "canned tune" vs a set of custom tunes is like night and day. A D8Chumley stated, the customtunes is the way to. I also had Superchips programmer on my F250 diesel and it added decent power to my diesel. I switched to a SCT with custom tunes and the power increase and overall smoothness was incredible !! It will cost a little extra to get custom tunes but well worth the $$$ IMO. I just recently bought a F150 and finished putting exhaust and stuff on it and now I'm deciding between the Gryphon and the SCT for my new truck.

Oh boy, yet another diesel defector! Welcome, there are several of us up here that traded on F150s. Just curious what your reason(s) are? I couldn't afford another major repair bill on my 6.0 so here I am

Haha..yeah man I feel you...when my F250 finally dropped 3 injectors and a FICM all at once I said enough is enough..lol I loved that truck !! I could have done all the work myself to fix it but the cost of parts over the years were easily into the thousands of $$$. This fix was gonna cost me about $2,500 in all needed parts alone so I just decided to come back to the world of good ole gasoline...I still got a good trade in value for the truck running like ***** from the dealer...gotta love the way the 2005 F250 King Ranch CC diesel 4x4's hold there value even half running. How about you ?
Yeah, in one yr Batteries, HPOP, IPR, ICP, Alt, FICM , 4 inj, 4 GP's and harness. I'm sure I forgot something, totaling over $8k. Did I say in one year? I loved that truck and I miss it, but couldn't afford it anymore. Sorry for the hijack. Good luck with the 150, I love mine so far, just a little less than the King Ranch.
EDIT: I forgot to include one VERY unhappy CFO! Divorce ain't my bag baby, lmao! So she got to pick the new one. All I wanted was an STX S/C but I'm glad she picked a nice one for me.
