i have never looked at the pressure right at start up but my aftermarket gauge sits at 20 idle and about 40 with throttle but it could possibly be wrong i dont really trust how accurate they are. just cheap crappy ones. taking a while to fire on all 8 is what im thinking. im not sure about the temp in the mornings ill check that tomorrow.its also a real PITA to get started in the morning but every time it starts fine. i know nothing about how the timing advance works. and i know my high idle dosent work. mileage is 182,000. fuel system i dont know, probably on factory. but i did notice the injectors were BB code i know those you can buy after market but do these trucks come factory with BB's?
put power to the high idle seloniod if it works the sendor my be bad. the timing advance is the arm on the left side of the pump. I have 2 NOS of all 3 temp senders i just got in a box of parts. If you need one pm me!
The timing advance bumps up the timing when its cold to reduce cold smoke. There is a selonoid in the pump that holds the advance arm out. the arm works normally when you open the throttle whilr driving. with the truck off move the ip linkage and you can see the arm move to compensate for higher rpm. The sendor for it is down by the right front glow plug and kicks the high idle and advance off when the coolant reaches 115f.
I could get a sense of the noise through the video. It is hard to describe noises. It is a noise through the intake? Not a metal to metal noise or a hard fuel knock. May be a lifter dropped and the noise you are hearing is a funny noise in the intake or exhaust. If a lifter drops it makes the valve timing late. They don't open as much as they should. They can actually get to a point that you have exhaust coming back through the intake. At what point that happens depends on the cam duration.
started it up today and it didnt make the rattle once. thats the first time in awhile so will see about tomorrow haha. so did these trucks come stock with BB code injectors?
It's a crap shoot. Get a small wire brush and start cleaning the flats of the injectors(where the wrench goes on) thats where they are stamped. If it starts knocking again try cracking lines and the one that doesnt change the tone of the motor is the one with the tiny hammer inside!
no i know they are BB i saw the stamp im just wondering if they came with that factory. im just trying to figure out if they have been replaced or not. and the thing with cracking the lines is by time i ever got that line cracked the noise would of been gone already
I started my truck up this morning and it was about 50F out (very cold) and it made a louder than usual clacking sound but it went away as soon as the glow plugs finished cycling.
That probably means there were a few cylinders not firing right away, but if it goes away you should be fine, if you want test the plugs and make sure you don't have a bad one.

Zakk, that sounds like you have an injector that is not giving proper spray pattern when cold. my 88 has been doing that for almost 70,000 miles.
sometimes when i let it sit idling for 20-30 minutes, i will loose a cylinder until i rev it a few times and make the injector work again.
new injectors have been on the to do list for 3 years now, but since i use the 02 as a DD i keep on forgetting about the 88 to do list.
