Fluid Requirements
I have a question. I have an 85 F250 but the motor was switched to a 7.3L diesel and the previous owner said it was an 88. Can anyone tell me what fluids I should run? And what the capacity is for them?

No matter what the year of an IDI engine is, it takes 10 quarts of oil.
If you use the Powerstroke filter, Motorcraft #1995, then apparently it takes 11 quarts.
My Dad's PSD uses that filter, holy cow, the thing is huge.
I don't even know how it would fit on an IDI, I've never tried, but apparently some members here run the PSD oil filter.
The engine will take conventional 15w-40, brand of your choice.

That would be a C6, dextron3/mercon fluid.

here's what i run.
ENGINE OIL: John Deere Plus 50 II 15/40w
approx. 72 dollars w tax for 5 gallon bucket (approx 12 a gallon w/o tax)
COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE: John Deere Cool Guard II.
approx. 15 dollars a gallon for concentrate (not diluted)
TRANS FLUID: Valvoline (for you would be dextron/mercron 3)
approx. 4 dollars a quart.
TRANSFER CASE: Valvoline (for you would be dextron/mercron 3)
approx. 4 dollars a quart. BW 1356 Transfer Case also takes auto trans fluid
REAR END AND FRONT DIFFERENTIAL: Valvoline Conventional 80-90w
approx. 7 dollars a quart.
