overdrive help!

1992 f-250 4x4 7.3 auto 188,000 miles
, overdrive will not enguage. Any ideas? was told it might be a Throttle Position Sensor? I have never owned a diesel and am considering purchasing this truck, wondering what the problem might be. Thank you guys very much for your help.

Get the codes scanned before you put down a dime for the truck. It could be something simple or it could be a $2000 transmission rebuild in the making.

Is it shifting hard at all?

I would be concerned that it could be a bad overdrive piston or burnt out clutches.
But like David85 says, check for trouble codes.

Sweet thanks for the help im going to grill the owner and get some more info. What codes should I look out for? Also what kinda gas milage and power can I expect from these motors?
