hey guys...i guess this is kind of a dumb question, BUT here it goes....95 f150 with 302.....how do you get the darn roller lifers out, never dealt with these before so i'm not in the mood to force them out.
ahh hah! ok that worked on the one thats not messed up, the other lifter wont come out of the hole. if i remove the cam will the stuck one fall through to the oil pan? this is on cyl #4. the spider broke and the retainer came free (fyi in case you wanted to know)
Did the spider break when the engine was running? If the lifter was able to rotate when the engine was in operation it is almost certain that the camshaft and lifter are ruined at their interface which may be why the lifter can't come out.
In this case the camshaft will have to come out. As for the lifters' ability to come out the bottom of their bores, some definitely can, but I'm not sure if all of them can. The ones closest to the main bearing webs might not have enough clearance.
yeah spider broke while running, the lifter i was able to remove was chewed up on the edges of the roller. i've decided to get a good used motor at the junkyard and see if i can fix this one. found one at a reputable yard complete for 550..... thanks for all your help
