The plenum boots I got in the set are a half inch longer than stock, and a pain in the neck to install because of that. Should I cut them down or just leave them sticking further up on the spider than the old ones?
In the middle of it right now, so quick help is most appreciated.
We make them longer so you can use t-bolt clamps. Just insert inside first then the other, and you may need to use a screw driver to roll the last leg over the plenum.
Yeah, I got them on last night, using the handle of serving spoon as a shoehorn. The problem is that, with them on, I can't push the spider down far enough to make it line up with the turbo outlet. Even with no boots the spider touches the passenger's side plenum reinforcement when lined up correctly on top. I'll try again tonight, and may cut the boots down a little, though I'm not sure their length is actually the problem.
On another note, Clay called me at 10:00PM *his time* last night. Is there better service available, anywhere? I'm really impressed...
I had trouble lining up the spider to turbo when I put my plenum inserts and boots on. Put the clamp between the spider and turbo on when you have the two close to lined up, and loosely tighten it. Then give it a couple taps while slowly tightening the clamp until everything lines up. The clamp will keep it from bouncing back out of alignment. I had everything back together and took a test drive when I heard a noise like a busted air compressor hose, popped the hood and the spider/turbo wasn't seated properly...
