Interested in opinions of those who have swapped out the Ford OEM IC/intake boots. Are RDP's superior to Ford's? With a new turbo going on, I'm considering swapping the boots while I'm in there. Ford's are more expensive, but I could just pick up the plenum boots rather than the whole shebang. Thanks.
I just installed a set and they are stout. They take more finessing when you try to connect all your hardware while the boots are cold, but you don't worry about them sliding off or bursting. Make sure you measure intake and outlet for your intercooler, there are too many variations to predict whether it's the 3.0" or the 3.25". I suggest buying 4 T-bolt clamps with them, these would replace the flimsy ones that came from the factory. One look will tell you where they go. You also need the plenum insert - the firm grip with these boots and clamps can crush the plenum intake tube.
After I went through all of this, I discovered a boost leak under my plenums and ended up ripping out the valley to start all over with billet plenums. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but if you have the drive or the green (with those miles) it won't hurt to lift the plenums to reseal or replace.
I have been very happy with the boot kit that I ordered. They have a nice appearance and so far don't show the signs of oil seepage like the factory boots did. But, the factory boots had way more miles on them. However, I would buy the kit again, no questions. Best of luck on YOUR decission.
I've had my boot kit on for almost 2 years now and don't have the oil seepage that I used to and have never had one come off yet. Great product for sure!
