My BIL bought a new travel trailer and his 1/2 ton Toyota won't pull it, 37ft approx 11,000 lbs.
He has ask me to pull it approx 200 miles for him to a park.
I haven't put the new 6.0 cooler on yet..
If I pull this I will not use overdrive at all since theres a few hills.
Will my stock tranny cooler be OK for this one time pulling his trailer ? And are there any things I should be looking for if I do ?
Thanks

You'll be just fine. Up the hills take it out of OD. Check all your fluids before you start. I wouldn't worry at all. I pulled a 16K toy hauler several thousand miles before installing my 6.0 cooler.
I don't think the"out of OD" is a very good plan, just don't let it"hunt" for gears, meaning don't let it shift back and forth,I'm not sure how much your torque converter will stay locked if you keep OD locked out...maybe someone will correct me...
I have the same truck as you but with 2WD. I pull about 10,000k with a stock truck and stock tans cooler. I have not had any problems. That said I am planning on adding a 6.0 cooler with trans temp gauge to take the guess work out of it. I found towing in overdrive did not work well. Trans would shift down even on a slight grade. I tow out of overdrive at about 60mph. I think that is about 2300rpm. Higer rpm should also mean cooler egt as well. I would think the TC would be locked out of overdrive but I think this is controlled by the ECM and how much your foot is in it.
Just to add....If my BIL bought a 11,000k 37' trailer and only owned a Toyota I think I would have to divorce him...

Up 3% or greater hills "out of OD" is a great plan. Small little hills your fine staying in OD. Keeping the truck out of OD will keep your EGT's down.

The converter will lock in third gear. Turning off OD is not a bad plan.
I stand corrected,I guess I meant I wouldn't leave OD off the entire trip as a rule,I would definitely turn it off on the good pulls....wasn't trying to mislead..I thought I read somewhere about the TC not staying locked or something....
Just had the transmission rebuilt on my 99 Explorer. Discussed towing with my 5.4 Expedition. One of Portlands best transmission guys said shift out of overdrive when you get to a grade. Easier on the TC.
Even though I'll have all the grunt with my 7.3. I'm still going to shift out of OD. Bought the 7.3 to pull my 22ft enclosed car hauler.
