First, I love and miss this ride! History; burned up my tranny (helping friend in ditch) in '05 New Year's Day ice storm here in lovely WI. Located a Bronco with identical and swapped it over. I assisted and we changed modulator valve ( i've researched approx 1500 posts and one said older units do not "like" this) but did not drain torque converter as part of fluid and filter change. Later I pulled an Astro van w/ no engine up a hill , approx 150 yards long. All was great except when I engaged 4X4 the low range did not "take" and I didn't notice it. This was around 2-3000 milesafter the swap. I have a cooler installed and the pull lasted perhaps a minute or a minute and a half. Two weeks later my son used it to pck up his brother , which included climbing long grades to reach a ridge top of one of the bluffs we have around here. After he was back down, he turned a corner and it was as if the lights went out. No gears forward or reverse. Ive never had a trans go out so fast ; no slip or warning of any kind. Could this be something other than complete failure? Could we have messed up the install? I know the rep of this transmission. Are they that bad? Help! I just don't know enough about the computer relationship and the topque converter switch etc. Thanks to all who have an idea and share!
