Ok, so (thanks to a few people) have been pretty well swayed to a powr lok for the front end of my rig-to-be. The problem...I have thick gears, so I need a 4.10 & down case for a D60. Not only am I pissed at JBG, but they don't have them anyway. So does anyone have any ideas where I could maybe find one? I've looked all over the Internet and keep finding trac lok diffs, or $500 powr loks.
If I can't find one, Ima jus say screw it and go open for a little while til I can scrape $$$ together for a selectable locker. Any suggestions/tips/advice? I know of eatons e-locker, ARB, and the almighty OX unit (prolly my first choice of the three, as well). Thanks fellers
Mostly bc they lock up under throttle, LSD is a little easier on parts while turning. This will be primarily be a trail rig that will see it's share of mud. Also, if I'm gonna shell out the extra $$$ for a locker, why not go full gusto?
I'll humor you, though. What kinds of lockers are worth a looksee for trails? What are you guys specifically running?
A Detroit Locker, fully automatic. Use that in the front of your rig, and weld the rear if its a wheeler.
I have used mine for years without issue. And a bonus is when you do break one axle/u joint up front, you still have one tire pulling, with a LS, you would be stuck in two wheel.
and a down side to a full locker is, if you break an axle and dont know it, it will get real scary real fast when you need front wheel drive on slick surfaces.
i found out the hard way in a locked up bronco and snowy roads. the passenger side axle was broke clean, no noise or anything. hit a patch of bare pavement under power, and the truck made a left turn head on into the other lanes traffic. luclily i bad enough room to stand on it and drive it off the road.
when we took it apart it looked like someone cut the axle in half with a knife. later found out from moser it was a defective axle and got a new one free of charge.
Well, I'm not having this one on the road, it should just be a dedicated toy. Also I'm picking up that they get u free shafts lol (nice btw, what luck). So what's the diff between a Detroit and a "tru trac"? Any idea where I can find one cheap(ish?)?

Btw tjc, is your avatar a t-shirt? That's effing awesome!!
I'm not quite getting the problem with the Powr-Loc ? There is no carrier break in a front h.p. 60 so the lower the ratio the thicker the ring gears become. A carrier that has 35 spline side gears and up to 4.10's on it is what you need for any ratio.
source info please. i find it odd that dana would make one axle with no case break. and explain why they sell thick and regular gears for reverse rotation.
