I bought one of those nut sert installation tools that look similar to rivet tools, but I can't seem to get it to work. It seems to just strip out the threads when you try to install it instead of collapsing the nut sert like it's supposed to. So how do you work them?
The inserts that came with my tool were the aluminum ones. I picked up some steel ones and will see if they work better. The aluminum ones stripped out even when I didn't have it in the hole just to see if they would collapse on the tool.
I picked up one of those "cheapie" nutsert tools from Harbor Freight and the aluminum nutserts that came with it were as soft as butter. Aluminum nutserts that I picked up from a hardware store were much better. They still would not take much stress. I wish I could find some Stainless ones for use in aluminum. Steel will corrode bad in aluminum. If I could find stainless I wouldn't buy anything else...
I got my set from harbor freight also, that must be why I'm having that problem. I picked up another nut sert tool from a place that specializes in fasteners cost me $82 and some steel nutserts, hopefully they will work better.
