I am clueless when it comes to transmissions. Know the motor, and all that "jazz" but i was curious if there is a C6 tranny that will fit the Ford 300? i keep getting told there is not and some say there is. Any answers and suggestions on where i can find one if there is such a thing?
The C6 was used behind the 300 and any C6 with the SBF pattern will fit. Many plow operators used to like the "6x6" combo for commercial snow removal.

The benefits of the C6 are durability, reliability, and low cost of repair.
The E4OD has overdrive and (I believe) a locking torque converter, so it'll get you much better gas mileage. They're known to be ridiculously expensive to rebuild.
As for 5 speeds, the only 5 speeds available are manuals.
Would you recommend that 5 speed over any of them? I enjoy my E4OD but gas mileage is a joke with that beast. im getting jacked if thats a bonus. I get maybe 12 in town driving "conservatively" and i get maybe 14 mpg on highway doing 80, even if i do 50 mph on cruise control i get maybe 16mpg at the MOST!!!! and thats like on perfect day with no wind and pristine temperature outside.
When was the last time you did a tuneup? Wires, plugs, cap, rotor, etc. Checked engine codes? (I'm assuming you have EFI if you have an E4OD) How's your exhaust? Plugged cat?
Also, what's your gearing and tire size? Those always play a factor in gas mileage.
Manuals almost always net better gas mileage than an automatic, but whether or not you want one us up to you. Personally, I'll take a manual over an automatic any day, but that's just my preference.
I know how to drive a manual so its not much of an issue there. I did a tune up less than 3000 miles ago so i know its good. I have not checked the cat, but i can say that there is a rich smell of gasoline when it starts and if i gas it a bit i can smell it in the cab if i have my window down and not moving. But no codes its OBDI incase that makes a difference. I wouldnt mind having a 5 speed. Just would have to get used to driving a manual again, i know basics of driving one and drove one for about 2 months than got this truck cause i couldnt pass up the deal. What power difference am i looking at with a manual? and also how much gas mileage? Roughly how much would it cost to rebuild one vs. an E4OD?
Bigger question, would it be difficult to switch a 5 speed for my E4OD if i decide to do it?
Forgot to ask, how do i check the cat to see if it is clogged?
Some people just prefer automatics for off-roading, ease of driving, and such.
Power difference is pretty noticeable, since there's no slippage. You have direct gear to gear engagement. That's also why there's a gas mileage increase. Sometimes, you can get as much as 1 - 3mpg more with a manual.
I've never done a swap from an auto to a manual, but there are some writeups on it. There's quite a bit of work involved, such as new pedals, linkage, shifters, clutch, hydraulics etc. Totally doable, but not the easiest undertaking.
As for a cat, most shops will test to see if its plugged for free.
You may also want to just check your engine bay for fuel leaks. I remember having a vehicle that'd smell like that on startup and such, and there ended up being a pinhole leak in a fuel hose.
How were u able to find the hole? It smells like my motor burns rich but any mechanic i go to says it is not. tail pipe is not white or black so it it running pretty well, i have the line where condensation runs off the pipe so it is running clean as far as i can tell, fuel pumps are good, im just not to familiar with finding gas leaks. I have had that theory since i had gotten it but my dad said it would be much worse if it was, but it is getting to be worse.
For instance as well, i can drive interstate 45 miles one way doing 80 and use a quester tank of a 19 gallon tank WTF! As well as all that the smell has just gotten stronger over the years. Rear fuel pump acts weak when i switch but runs fine once fuel is running through, just the initial flow.
Also with that distance it shows i have only used a 1/8th tank until i stop at a red light and turn truck off than turn back on and it shows quarter tank than. Guage is fine as i have replaced it by dropping tank. Fuel pumps are in good order. Whats easiest way to find leak without haveing truck running so im not underneath my running truck in driveway looking at the gas lines. Doesnt sound very safe lmao.
On mine, I was able to smell gas (not rich running engine) whenever I turned it off. I finally smelled around the engine until it was strongest and saw one of the lines was slightly wet. When I started it, a fine mist spray started coming out. It was almost unnoticeable, but on this particular car I lucked out because it was spraying on a 1000° turbocharger. (Prayer of thanks on that one).
Another thing I was told to check for before I found that was a bad O-Ring on an injector, which would let gasoline leak past it while it was running.
Fluctuating gauges is normal on these. Mine needle'll waver by a good 1/8 of a tank sometimes. I can usually tell when its acting up because all the other gauges will read a little higher or lower too.
As long as your wheels are blocked, crawling under the vehicle with the engine running is no big deal. Just be smart don't grab a hot exhaust pipe, or put your hands near the fan (common sense).
I will need to replace them when i get my new fuel injection. I think ill just get steel threaded or w/e kind of hose it is.. braded.. something. It needs to be done, those stock lines are bound to go soon with all the abuse and wear i put on them. But still runs like a champ and is pristine condition for no rebuild!

Holy crap, yeah! Dang, I bet you felt a cold chill after you found that one. I know I would! LOL
I myself have had an experience of driving a truck, a fire pops up in the engine compartment, and before you know it, it's a raging inferno. I can only assume with how fast the fire became an inferno that it must have been a gasoline leak. Scared the crap out of me! I have had a newfound respect for the power of flammables ever since.
I would to, read the labels. lol, i had my fair share and blew a hole in neighbors wall making a miniature "bottle bomb". and well needless to say he was cool up until the part i didnt have the money to pay for it. HAHAHA, but al is well, i just worked it off!
