HID lights back to stock...????

Ok , Im a nubblet on this forum , did a search and didnt find anything to my ??? I have a 2001 f350 it has the HID light assemblies in it.... Apperently you must buy the whole kit new if one part fails... as the tool on the info line stated... Anybody know a trick to this . My passenger light went out... The kits are way over priced for this guy , thinking on going back to the stock set up... I dont have the stock light assemblies so if anybody has some let me know...

The real ? What year lights fit in the trucks ( will the wiring all plug up ) and is there a better year light assembly to buy. Thanks

Goto a wrecker and get the light assembly and bulbs, unplug harness and plug back to the bulb. There are bulbs for some kits, depends on what you have, whose kit, whose light assembly.

Check the following:
  1. Power and ground to the relay
  2. Bulb & filament intact
  3. Everything connected and no corrosion

This is less of a problem than you think. Lots of places online sell bulbs and relays, in fact whole kits are pretty cheap. There are also a number of retrofit projector set-ups (and no purists, we are not going to have anothe HID debate here) available.

Yeah , think I will check the power and ground. I do like the brightness of them , but dont want trouble that cant be fixed easy. Have to find a source for the parts I guess.

Here are a couple of options:

Ford F550 HIDs Ford F550 HID Kits Headlight Conversions Xenon Bulbs

6,000k HID Kits

Ford Xenon Headlights HID Kit Lights Conversion

Look for 5000K or close to it for daylight. The higher the color temp, the bluer the light.

I would replace both lamps so they match.

Here is the link for the projectors:

better hope the filament isnt intact on the hid or you have a problem.

and parts arent bad at all, bulbs are about $15 a set, and a ballast is about $15-20 on ebay. swap the bulbs from side to side to see if it is the bulb that is bad or the ballast

do you have a low beam only hid kit or do you have the low and high beam kit? if you have the low and hi kit they usually are installed with a wiring harness that has a inline fuse...

if that's not the problem it is either the bulb or ballast but bulbs usually don't go bad it's the ballast that craps out, which you can find replacements on ebay for cheap. the ballasts are pretty much all the same with the same connectors so swapping them out is easy...

Thanks guys for all the help and links, The lights I have are a low beam HID only. The low beam went out . I seen it flicker a little . Been doing some research .

If i got a kit like this,
HID XENON H13 9008 8000K CONVERSION KIT head light bulb - eBay (item 150572091699 end time Apr-02-11 19:25:55 PDT)

I could just replace all my bulbs and ballests I guess . Is this correct . It sucks cause I bought the truck with these and didnt install them so Im clue less on how they work and all. I have always been told with headlights to replace in pairs . I assume if one when out the other will follow soon. plus matching issues you dont want them different.

My lights look like these.

99-04 Ford F250 / F350 / Excursion Halo Projector Headlights Chrome /w Amber Reflector (pair) + HID Xenon Lights Kit Package

You can swap ballasts and bulbs.

Check all the connections then swap bulbs side to side to see if it is bulb or ballast as suggested above.

you could just get a new kit like the one you have the link too but I was looking at the projector headlamps link and didn't see it mention anywhere what size bulb goes in them? (h13, h1...) I remember reading somewhere awhile ago that said those don't have the stock bulb size in them, something you may want to double check. other than that just pick the color you want and you should be able to just swap new with the old.

I have 4 sets of hids on my truck and have had the ballasts fail numerous times, but never a bulb. I'm not sure if they even have a filament. You can easily get replacement parts on e-bay, but in the long run it is cheaper just to get the whole set for like $79.00 and you will have more spare parts. In 3 yrs. I have probably replaced 4 or 5 ballasts. RTemember there are 2 size ballasts a 35 watt and a 55 watt the same bulb works with either.
