steering column

so i was wondering how to remove my steering column collar on my 79 f-150?? Its a 3 speed auto and is not a tilt wheel. Do i have to take the whole steering wheel off in order to get to it??

I'm pretty sure you do. The steering wheels come off really easy if you have a universal wheel puller. I bought about the cheapest one I could find and it worked great.

Autozone rent's em out for free, just put up a fully refundable deposit.

I haven't done one in a few years but I'm 99% sure it comes off from the steering wheel side.
