I am curious to see what you get for answers, mostly those who didn't like it. I am getting ready to do bellowed up-pipes and thought it would be an opportune time to knock it out.

I didnt mind thee mod, considering, your taking out the oil residue to help keep the air charge cooler, but i'm not understanding how/if your relating the "seal leak" with this mod, or if i'm just reading it wrong.

I have toyed the idea around in my head and I can't come to terms with seeing or smelling the blow by so I think I will be adding some sort of filter to it then reinstalling it back into the intake. I will say since I have installed clays boots I haven't had an issue with that oily film though. Only thing I notice is when I have to remove a ic pipe it may have a little oil in it that will run out but no big deal really. A little ot but how much oil do you think accumulates in the inner cooler?

I didn't do it and I will not do it. I keep my engine clean, so why put up with the fog of smoke?

My lone vote is for the CCV into the exhaust. I've heard everything from 1psi overpressures are going to blow seals to claims that the exhaust is corrosive and will go backwards through the hose and into your valve cover. Well today we're going to pull that valve cover and see what it looks like in there after more than 100,000 miles in this configuration. I do occasionally see a little vapor blowing by the truck, but it's coming out the exhaust pipe. I KNOW everybody thinks it's a bad idea (mostly based on testimony of theory and loosely based on pressures measured without load), but those who have done it in mild climates have had a lot of success with it.

I for one love it and will be sorry to see it go back to stock when I have to make my first smog appointment ever, in my life, for anything. Probably will put it back in the exhaust though. Today's exploration will largely determine it's ultimate fate. Pics to follow.

Here's the config.

I'm thinking if i should do it or not. I wanna do some kind of filter and route it back to intake. I have an idea on a filter or catch can of some sort. What kind of filter or catch can some of you guys have out there? Any pics?

Thanks

buy taking the ccv and just venting to the outside air it is not the same as if in the intake tube it is pulling a vac there so there is less pressure in the block there fore less likley too push oil past a seal. that is my therory . im not saying the mod is bad im just still reserching even though it done allready.

This is my vote but I haven't done it yet. I'll likely modify the tube to something like Andy did to his exhaust and just plug it back in for the summer. I don't mind the fumes in the winter cause the windows are always up. Summer is a different story.

There are pics of this type of filter out there. Both home made and purchased. I have mine built but didn't get to the filter media yet. I keep putting it off cause I wanna make it betterer

I have left mine as is. I don't really want a smoking hose at the back of the truck and I kinda like the idea of a lubricated turbo wheel.

Just my $0.02...

Nay vote here. Thus far, if 'housekeeping' is the only reason to change it, then I don't see any benefits, and see no reason to risk altering the balance of pressure in the crankcase.

I ran for over 3 years with the CCV venting to atmosphere. I did get tired of catching a whiff here and there, and got tired of seeing visible smoke.

I've now re-routed it through a t-strainer bowl and back into the intake. Doesn't catch 100% of the oil, but it catches most of it. Plus no more smell.

Personally I think that's the best route to go... but that's just my opinion.

A CCV mod won't hurt anything unless you end up pressurizing the crankcase. Remember that the International version of our engines vent to open atmosphere. So doing exactly the same on these engines won't hurt anything.

Had 4" mild steel pipe laying in garage, cut it to about 5 inches long and used this to delete my CCV. Vent the hose back by my transfer case, no smell, no issues, no nothing. No more oily pipes, and don't know if it helped any but the 4" pipe sure looks like it would be less restriction than the factory CCV piece(take a look inside it sometime, you will see what I mean). Mine was free, so I vote "yes".

Got pics? This sounds like a good idea.

Here's my writeup and canister trap. If you route it back to the intake, just put both the inlet and outlets on the same side of the trap and route it back.

CCV Mod pictures from trucks photos on webshots

On edit, here's the routed back to the intake version - I've built a few of these for members over the last couple of years:
