Locking Hub

Got a 06 f-350 dually and I couldn't get the passanger hub locked this winter but finally got it locked and left it till it got warmer. Today I pulled it out and the spring melted the plastic housing. Ford wants $180 for a replacement but I put a set of warns on my 02 for like $150. But I can't seem to find any for a 06. Does anyone know of any company that makes some for a 06 or am I stuck with a plastic ford one?

So far as I have been able to find, no one makes an aftermarket hub for anything newer than an '04.

You need to find out why it melted though. You have a bearing bad enough somewhere that it is generating a lot of heat.

If the needle bearings have seized, then you'll need to replace them. And inspect the stub shaft for damage. I do not know if the needle bearings can be replaced without replacing the entire hub assembly as well as the damaged hub lock.

Manual hub for '06 Ford....

I would call Warn Industries Customer Service and ask them. Their number is (800) 543-9276. Sometimes stuff they have isn't posted yet. Be sure to ask where you might find one if they don't have one for your application. They ought to know. ...................Mike.

Even if the OP can find a manual hub replacement, he will still need to repair the needle bearings and stub shaft, if they are damaged. They are not part of the hub locks, but part of the hub itself.

'06 turn hub problem.....

I absolutely agree on that one. In fact, having not seen it myself, if it got that hot I would be concerned about the metallurgical integrity of the actual stub axle itself. Check to see if the stub axle surface where the bearing rides has any blue-ish/brownish coloring and check the surface of the metal itself to make sure is is smooth, since that needle bearing rides directly on the shaft surface. Good luck with it. .....been there, done that! ..........Mike

If you want just a replacement auto hub (if yours are auto) I just put a pair in the classifieds section.

I don't have auto hubs just the old fashion manual hubs. I don't believe there is any damage to the wheel hub because the stub axle doesn't have any play and as many bearings as there was in there I would assume it would very loose Im thinking they came out of the lockout itself

David I think he is talking about the needle bearings in the locking hub not the unit bearings from what i can see in the parts illistration ford has changed the unit bearing for the 2005 2006 there was no needle bearing in the knuckle end of the unit bearing it was a larger ball bearing that was held in with a circlip part #2d118. There is no aftermarket for the locking hubs I looked every where because my ESOF is losing vacum at the hubs. Fordparts.com had them for 174.67 for the manual and 203.83 for the Auto

I had made the assumption that the needle bearings inside the main hub arrangement of the 99-04 models continued on into 2005 and beyond. Apparently that's not the case and he can just replace the hub lock itself.
