What troubling "discussions" have you been hearing about it? I use it all the time and I don't have any issue with it.

One person is saying they could not get hardly any of the functions to work properly,, went on to say that the customer service was very rude, and unwilling to except there software might have issues. Hard to tell without spending the bucks to figure it out on your own,,, I found about eight discussions on it,, two were positive, the rest not so..can you tell me more about your exsperience.?????????
I have nothing but good things to say about it. I'm one of the bigger advocates for AE in the 6.0 forum here. The one or two times that I've called customer service, they have always been helpful to me. They really weren't issues specifically, just more about product updates and finding out more about the portable version of their software as well.

It depends on what is availabe through the specific vehicle's computers. For instance, fuel PSI is not availabe on the 6.0s, so it won't show it for that engine, but if it is available for the engine it's hooked up to, it will show it.
Now, since you have a PSD, you will need to get the Ford Enhancement License in order to read all the features that are available to your particular engine. If you don't, it will only be able to pick up the "Generic Powertrain". Which isn't going to be much for a 97 PSD compared to the 6.0 as the "generic powertrain" is mainly emissions related.

One more brain pick,,,two of my trucks are f450s,,one 7.3 and the other is a 6 liter, and the other 6 liter is f350 four door short bed, all have the obd connections, I ran into a couple different sights that stated their software would not function on 450s and up because they did not have to be obd 2 compliant,, that confused me a bit,, common sense I think tells me, that if they have the 6liter engines, and the obd 2 connection that it should work fine. Am I heading in the right direction???? And thank you in advance for your time!!!!!!!
I don't have 450s, so I can't comment about that whether or not AE would work, I haven't though seen where they had that stipulation, but I hadn't looked either.
However, I will add that just because they don't legally have to be OBDII compliant, doesn't mean that they aren't. Just means that they didn't have to be.
