I'm looking to purchase PC based OBD2 & CAN software that will let me do live connect on late model Ford as well as other trucks. Most handheld scanners dont let you watch sensors live as the engine runs to see how they perform. Mine doesnt and I thought why buy a fancy scan tool when there is software out there that has all the bells and whistles that will run on a laptop.
Anyone out there familiar with this or have a preference? Pros and Cons on any makes will be welcome. I've been looking at Autoengenuity and Auterra on eBay....anyone use either or both, care to comment?
Thanks Allen, I would mainly need one for the Dodge stuff but a setup like that would have been a huge help diagnosing the '00 7.3 that you and Tenn and a few others have helped me with. A standard scan tool, even with Ford protocol didnt give me even a whiff of info on that bad IDM... I doubt ford could have found it without doing the back probing tests I did on the VC connector on the left bank. After all they had a crack at it twice at the dealership and didnt find it... I'm always the last resort guy it seems.... I bet I could have got to the bottom of it WAY faster with a good software program like this.... I'll probably buy the complete domestic package.... Thanks, Scott
You wont be sorry Scott. I have not tested any Dodge stuff but have found nothing that couldn't be looked at on the Strokers.... including the door locks.
Autoenginuity all the way. The Auterra doesn't support diesels.
Quote from their website:
Diesel vehicles may not work with our scan tool. Heavy-duty vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) exceeding 14,000 pounds also may not work with our scan tool.
