Will this work ???

7 Pc 1/4 in, 3/8 in. Drive Impact E-Socket Set

I need to remove the drive shaft in order to lube the splines.

Would this HB torx sockets work on the drive shaft bolts? Price is pretty good with 20% discount coupon. I know its not best quality tools but I wont use this set on a regular basis.

Just a 12 point craftsman is all you need

Yeah you dont really need anything special for those bolts. I have used both my 12 point sockets and Craftsman Maxx Access sockets with no problem.

It's a 12 mm 12 point socket if I remember right.

I sell something similar in my store and they work fine. HF has the same quality too. Many times a 12 pt will work fine. Think of it this way, What fun is it working on our trucks if we don't get to have some cool tools too? If you can afford it get them if not you shouldn't have an Excursion either.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have the bolts removed using my craftsman12 point.

Now I have a trouble trying to drop the drive shaft. I've pounded it with dead blow hammer, pryed it forward but the shaft will not move.

I've soaked the flanged with BP blaster . Any tricks on removing the shaft?

Also is it safe to replace the factory metal strap that holds the rubber boot with zip tie? If not whats the alternative?

Put something under the shaft to hold it if it falls, jack up the rear end of the truck a little bit, if it doesn't come loose, give it a few more love taps. This is how i got mine off the first time I took it down. Putting the rear up put some tension the shaft and I was able to tap is loose. Make sure your front wheels are chocked front and back before you try this and make sure you have jack stands on both ends of the shaft in case it pops loose on it's own.

Yes you can use a zip tie on boot.

Probably going to get a nice PM from Stewart so I'll try to keep this as civil as I can....
Shut the **** up. Not all of us can afford to buy the top of the line tools, and there is nothing wrong with using off-brand tools on some things in this day and age. We're talking about an Excursion FAMILY here, not some Ferrari fan boy club of elitist. I could outspend, out buy and over bid you 9 days a week if I had not joined the Army, but I did. My job (If I was still able to do it) pays close to 200k a year starting out but I went in the service instead. Now I'm a 100% disabled veteran from the US Army. 100% disabled, and 100% medically retired through the ARNG as well. Because of the Army I will never be medically able to work again and now instead of 200k+ a year I get $1500 a month. I could hardly afford my POS 5.4 2wd X and more when I bought it, am I not worthy? I fought for your piece of **** *** and used the money I made to buy a truck. I come on here to talk to my FAMILY about it and you want to say you have to "Pay to play"?!? I don't care if the OP says he bought it to live out of and it has no motor or tranny and is only on here because the rear hatch is sticking, don't you ever ****ing say "You have to be this tall to ride". You think I'm not wealthy enough to own an X? Tell me what you did to deserve one without using dollar signs!

Glad to do it It was the best 7 years of my life, and I wish I could still do it. I was an Air Traffic Controller when I enlisted and loved the job to death. I was great at it and planned on doing my 30 years even though there is so much to be made on the civilian side. After my problems started I lost my FAA license to work in a tower and went ARNG. Blackhawk Crewchief from then until now (I'm still working on getting out of the guard actually) and have no regrets

I will second that, I know you have to give up a lot to do what you do and it's much appreciated.

I'm glad you beat me to it, props from one vet to another although nowhere near as disabled.

On a side note, I promise you the VA is bending you over the table considering you have a wife and kid. My ex gets $1452 at 74% claiming just her and child. You should be well into the $2800-3300 range bud, make some calls.

But he does have a point, you DO have to pay to play unfortunately. Sometimes you gotta pay to stop playing too (divorce, ugh)

You still get PM's from the mods? I have leveled up to phone calls and text messages

Apoc, well said and I agree 100% this isn't a pay to play club this is essentially a "family" and not every family can afford to do whatever the **** it wants just because they have a certain flavor of vehicle. This might not translate into Army speak but hoorah! And thanks for your service and sacrifice, from one veteran to another.

Honestly I have no idea what our income is like, the DAV has helped us a lot and I went from barely making it on $800 a month before I met my wife to whatever I have now which I think is closer to 2500. You do have to pay to play, but some of us can also play vicariously through some of you (looking in your direction Lininglarge). Does that $150 tank fill-up bother me? Nope, I take it like a man... one that knows what he drives. But saying that I have to have "the best" tools to work on it is:

A. Pompous
B. Elitist
C. Ignorant
D. Snobby
E. All of the above
