I have V10 03 4x4. New Rancho Shocks and new LT285 Michelins. Ride improved but still "rocks" around turns and has front end brake dip.
No sway bar. Door sticker shows "CG" under SPR. Bumps stops on the front are ripped. What is CG? Will new bumps stops do anything.
I need to get ride corrected. Suggestions.
Transmission seems to stay in low gear longer than it should. Is there any factory maintenace that should be done.
Big Rig has 110,000 miles on it. Engine all stock. Smokes a tad when I start it up but runs well over all. Spent 16.5 hours in it during the blizzard in MD a month of so ago. Never missed a beat. But tranny would not shift out of drive....frozen?
If u have the rancho adjustables on say 1 or so, that IS soft, and will allow side to side sway if you don't have a sway bar under it...
loved my hellwigg on the 02 4x2 and 03 4x4 Ex's, but for some reason not doing as well on my 05.... but suspect the installers may have been at fault... need to crawl under there one of these days to check...
I had some of the same issues. You were not specific as to which model Rancho shocks you have. I bought the 9000xl's. I have them adjusted to "6" if I am remembering right. Huge improvement from the lower settings! Also, my OEM tires are aired up to 65lbs all the way around. The tires and tire pressure can make huge difference in these vehicles! Chances are that you will be hearing from the tire and shock guys before too long! There is a lot of experience here. Except fo shocks and coil/plug boots, I have stuck with the OEM products. When it comes time for new brakes et al, I will study the brake posts here. Good Luck!
I have Rancho 9000 xl set on 6 in front and 5 in rear.
Considering doing front spring change. What is CG?
And I don't need any life really, I just want to get the ride right.
If I do leaf springs for 7.3, then I should get tight ride?
I have V10....going to 7.3 should be enough of upgrade.
And I am lost on doing the B spring in the rear. Why go softer? And lose clearance? I know they add back in a larger block but,,,,
The CG under springs are the code for front "c" back "g" spring rates. The upgraded springs will give you more control on the ride. I suggest searching the threads about v/b code spring swaps to get a better understanding before choosing.
The b codes are from the pick up and are a higher rate than g codes. The added block is to keep the rack front to back. The v codes raise the front on the v10 about 2", the b codes don't raise the back, but are a better ride, so the block is added to even things up.
If you search those threads some have changed to x or w codes for front and f codes for rear. Others went with after market ones to achieve the same effect in the end. The rear sway bar will also help some in the back.
The ride height that you gain is the gain in the spring travel. That is why your bump stops are toast, because the springs bottom out.
The bit that you do gain is does not change the getting in and out really. I have little ones and my 4yr old has no problems, but we have kept the wide running boards. Even use them to put in and buckle up the weee one, at 9 mnths.
The height issues of garage access, well that might be different. You will want to measure what you X sits at now, and the height you have. Might need to take the roof rack completely off to gain that little bit you might need.
The stock shocks that I got before the spring swap actually have the proper movement now, and did not before so I know that the original springs were sagging.
As for the bolt right up, yes. Simple unbolt and bolt up. I did it myself, but a helper is recommended. There are threads on the mounting details as to procedure and socket sizes needed, but if you have more questions ask.
